Board of elections meetings
The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, Ga. Any changes to the scheduled dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.
Dinner served
Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday's menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. A large variety salad bar, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, bread, dessert and ice tea are included with steak. Come out and join us for a delicious meal.
VBS at First Assembly
Set sail and catch the waves at First Assembly's VBS! It will be held Monday, July 28 through Friday, August 1st, 6:30 - 9 p.m. each night. Ages: kindergarten - 6th grades. Register in advance at the church office 706- 359-7237.

Free hair cuts
American Legion Post 597 will offer "free" haircuts to students attending Lincoln County Elementary and Middle Schools on Saturday, August 2, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the post on Thomas Lane Post Road.
As the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year swiftly approaches, the legionnaires are aware of the economic crisis everyone is experiencing and desire to assist the community in some small way.
Parents are encouraged to bring their children and take advantage of this opportunity.

Gold Rush Pageant
The Miss Gold Rush Pageant will be held on Saturday, August 2 at 6:30 p.m.
Categories are available for ages 3 - 21. Entry fee is $30 per contestant, $50 for two in same family.
Applications are available at the Mc- Cormick County Chamber of Commerce or you may email goldrushpageant@gmail.com to obtain a copy. Deadline is July 25.

Homecoming at Harmony
Homecoming Services for Harmony Baptist Church in Lincolnton will be held Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Michael Thomas of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Swainsboro, Ga. will be in charge of the service.

Beggs Golf Tourney
The Lyndsie Beggs Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, August 2nd at 8:30 p.m. at Forest Hills Golf Club. The registration is limited to the first 100 players and the entry deadline is Tuesday, July 29th.
It cost $75 per player which includes green fees, cart fees, lunch, and great prizes. Make checks payable to: The Lyndsie Beggs Golf Tournament, 555 Cranberry Circle, Grovetown, Ga. 30813.
The tournament proceeds will help pay Lyndsie's medical costs.

Info. needed
Archivists are seeking officers, enlisted men, WACs, cadets, britons, civilians and/or their families and friends who are stationed at Cochran Field, or lived in Macon, Georgia during WWII, who would be willing to contribute artifacts, photos, articles, and stories pertaining to their experience with the men and women working there.

Looking for recipes
The Lincoln County Historical Society is in the process of compiling a cookbook that will showcase all of the wonderful recipes that Lincoln County people love to prepare. We want this cookbook to not only include recipes but the history of Lincoln County as well.
If you have any historical facts or human interest stories that reflect the history of Lincolnton, please submit them to us by July 10th along with your favorite recipes. Submit as many as you like and make sure you put your name on each entry. You may send your stories or recipes to the Lincoln County Historical Society at P.O. Box 869 or place them in a drop box that will be located on the front porch at the May House until July 10th.
We want this cookbook to be one of your favorites as well as your very own reference on some of the history of Lincoln County. Your participation with this is greatly appreciated.

Consignors wanted
Lincolnton United Methodist Church is seeking consignors for its first annual Fall Kids Pass it On Consignment Sale to be held at the church on September 5 - 6. Consignors receive 60% of the amount sold while the church receives 40% to go back into local missions.
Items to be consigned are children's clothes (newborn to size 20), children's shoes, maternity clothes, strollers, toys, books, etc.

The church will have consignor packets available with detailed information to those who sign up. Deadline for signing up will be August 29, 2008.
Choir anniversary
Come out and help us celebrate the 10th Choir Anniversary of the Robert Lee Beard Male Chorus. It will be held at 6 p.m., on August 16, at the First Baptist Church in Lincolnton. Rev. Dennis Joe Quinn, Pastor.
Beggs to speak
The Lincoln County Historical Society will meet at 12:00 on Aug. 6 at the May House in the Historical Park. Featured guest speaker will be Kevin Beggs who will give a presentation on the Coca-Cola industry that used to be in Lincoln County. Bring a covered dish for our lunch and join with us in learning more about the history of Lincolnton.
Vendors wanted
Elijah Clark is now accepting applications for vendors and crafters for the Elijah Clark's Bluegrass Festival Sept. 19-21. Applications may be picked up at the park office or call 706-359-3458. Deadline for applications is Aug. 22.
Scrabble Club
The Scrabble Cub will meet Sun., Aug. 3 from 2 - 5 p.m. at the Dova Partridge Annex of the Lincoln County Library. Please bring your Scrabble board in case we need it. Munchies will be provided by FOL. Ya'll come!
Baking bread at park
Take a trip to Elijah Clark State Park on Sat., Aug. 9 and bake some bread with Karen Thompson and then enjoy tasting your homemade bread hot from the Dutch oven. Free with your $3 park pass.
Homecoming Aug. 10
Ebenezer Baptist Church will celebrate its annual Homecoming service on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at 10:45 a.m. The public is invited. Rev. Fred Perriman, pastor.
Freeland-Crawford reunion
The annual reunion of the Freeland- Crawford family descendants of James Manning, Corey Freeland, and Caroline Augusta Butler Freeland will be held on August 10, 2008, at St. Paul United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, Plum Branch, South Carolina at 12:15 p.m. Please bring a picnic lunch and tea.
Elam reunion The family of Annie K. Elam and Sam Green Elam will be hosting their 36th reunion Aug. 7 - 10. Thursday is old-fashion day beginning at 5 p.m.; Friday will be "Meet and Greet" at Mulberry C.M.E. Church at 7 p.m.; Saturday will be the fish fry at 7 p.m.; and Sunday dinner will be held at 2 p.m.
All festivities will take place at the Elam home place in the Maxim community.
LCMS orientation A special sixth-grade orientation session will be held in the LCMS cafeteria on Tues., Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. Students and their parents are encouraged to attend. Any middle school students new to the system are also welcome.

Smith at park
Join Gerald Smith at Elijah Clark State Park on Sat., Aug. 23 to learn how the colonial army doctors treated patients with medicines available at the time. Take home a herb doctor's "recipe" for various aliments and their cures, and learn what medicines are available from our own herb garden. Free with your $3 park pass.
Revival at Mulberry The Left Foot Spirituals will be in concert at Mulberry C.M.E. Church August 16, 2008 at 6 p.m. Revival will be held Monday, August 18 through Wednesday, August 20, 7 p.m. nightly. The messenger is to be announced for August 18. Rev. George Glenn of Mount Aldred, Thomson will speak on August 19 and Rev. Paul Gardener of Williams Memorial, Augusta will speak on August 20.
The church anniversary will be held on August 24 at 2 p.m. featuring Rev. Reginald Jones and Sharon Baptist Church, Augusta. Sunday services will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Bingo is Friday

Planning meetings
The Lincoln County Planning Commission will hold all its regularly scheduled meetings in the Planning and Zoning Conference Room located at 107 Perryman Avenue unless otherwise advertised. The meeting dates are:; Aug. 11; Sept. 8; Oct. 6; Nov. 10; Dec. 8.
Assessors meetings
The Lincoln County Board of Tax Assessors will hold its meeting at 4 p.m., in the Tax Assessor's office at 182 Humphrey St. Upcoming monthly meeting dates include: August 19, September 16, October 21, November 18, December 16.
Homecoming Sun.
Prices Grove Baptist Church family will celebrate its Annual Homecoming Day Sun., Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. with guest minister Rev. Harmon of Abbeville, S.C. Rev. Marilyn Cullars- Smith will be the worship leader. Everyone is invited.

Class reunion meeting
Classes 1942-1967 from the Lincolnton Colored High School and Lincoln County Training School will meet Sun., Aug. 10, 5 p.m. at the Lincoln County Library for their final planning meeting for the class reunion. Please plan to be in attendance.
First Saturday
First Saturday 5th Annual "Bikers Charity Ride" in Warrenton, Ga. will be held Aug. 2. Registration 10:30- 11:30 a.m., and the ride begins at 11:30 sharp. All Bikes welcome. Entry fee is one hand for $25, which includes a goody bag, T-shirt, mini cooler, and lunch. Each additional hand is $5. A 50/50 drawing and door prizes will be available. Proceeds go to Hometown Warrenton, Inc., a nonprofit community organization.
Vendors are also welcome to set up along Main Street at no charge. Sidewalk and yard sales are welcome. Call 706-465-9604 to reserve a space or receive more information.
District meeting
The 10th District Congress of Christian Educators will be held at Beulah Grove Baptist Church, located at 1434 Poplar Street, Augusta, Ga., on Sat., Aug. 23. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Walker reunion
The annual Walker reunion for the descendants of Daniel Lumpkin Walker and connected families will be held at Fishing Creek Baptist Church on Sun., Aug. 17. A covered dish dinner will be served at 1 p.m. Please bring your favorite dishes to share and also any old photos or albums to put on display. Group photos will be taken for insertion in the December issue of the newsletter.
District picnic
The Annual 10th District Picnic will be held Sat., Aug. 2 at Henry Brigham Center Recreational Building located at 2463 Goldencamp Road, Augusta, Ga. The picnic will begin at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.
Summer revival
Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will hold its annual summer revival Mon. - Thurs., Aug. 11 - 14, beginning at 7 p.m. nightly.
Guest minister will be Rev. Daniel Ramsey, pastor of Smith Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.
Ice cream supper
Loco Volunteer Fire Department is inviting you to an Ice Cream Supper on August 1, 2008 at 7 p.m. Make some of your favorite ice cream and/ or dessert for others to enjoy and come enjoy the good food and fellowship with neighbors and friends. It will be held at the main station on Hwy. 220 West. Come out and support your fire department.
TIA Helping Hand
The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/ 50.
