Traveling the mediterranean
     David and Nancy Pund took their Lincoln Journal along on their Mediterranean Cruise. They visited Genoa, Savona, Ischia, and Palermo, in Italy. They went to the city of Tunis in Tunisia, North Africa for some shopping and a show. They also visited Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona, Spain where this picture was taken with the Lincoln Journal. Their final stop was in Marsielles, France. The Pund's did some sightseeing, swimming and plenty of sampling of the local foods. Nine members of Mrs. Pund's extended family accompanied them on their trip and a good time was had by all.

Ga. jalapeno peppers and salsa found negative for salmonella
      Samples of fresh jalapenos and salsa grown and produced in Georgia have tested negative for Salmonella. Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin made the announcement this afternoon after receiving the results from the Department's food microbiology laboratory.

      A fund has been established at Farmers State Bank to aid the Beggs family. Youth lead VBS in Savannah
      Members of Lincolnton Baptist Church and Morningside Baptist Church traveled to Savannah, Georgia to conduct Vacation Bible School at Savannah Baptist Mission Center. The youth were in charge of all of the classes, music, Bible study, crafts and recreation activities.

DHR encouraging older adults to get flu vaccine
      August is National Immunization Awareness Month and the Georgia Department of Human Resources Division of Aging Services (DAS) is encouraging older adults to get immunized against the flu. The flu season, which typically runs from late fall until March, is responsible for an average of more than 200,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths each year in the United States.

Collins and Hinson named to Dean's List at Reinhardt
      Two Lincoln County students, Sneed Collins and Tyler Hinson, were among the 271 students named to the Reinhardt College Dean's List for spring semester 2008. A Reinhardt Dean's List student must maintain a 3.5 grade-point average based on successful completion of a minimum of 12 semester credits with no grade less than a B.

     Arnold and Carol Ridgeway of Lincolnton, Ga. enjoyed their trip to the Grand Canyon this summer. The back drop of the picture is the view from the South Rim of the canyon at the El Tovar Hotel. Accompanying them were Rhon, Vickki and Barhon Carter, the couple's daughter and family.

      American Legion Post 597 will offer free hair cuts to students attending LCES and LCMS from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, at the post home on Thomas Lane Post Road, off of the Augusta Highway. "In light of the economic crisis facing our country, the Legionnaires wanted to do something to help our community," said Harvey Elam, post commander.
