Due to press constraints, The Lincoln Journal was unable to publish the results of a "straw poll" that was conducted in conjunction with the Georgia General Primary held Tuesday, July 15.

Georgia Law allows both parties to conduct non-binding straw polls to gauge voter opinion on a variety of issues.

The Lincoln County Republican Party voted to place three questions on the Republican ballot. The results of the poll are as follows:

(1) As provided for in Georgia Law, should Lincoln County phase in school tax relief for senior citizens?

An overwhelming 91.30 percent (724 votes) of the voters agreed that the county should phase in tax relief for seniors.

(2) As provided for in Georgia Law, should Lincoln County freeze real property assessments for tax purposes until the property is actually sold for the increased value?

Calculations show that 88.63 percent (686 votes) of the voters were in favor of the freeze.

(3) Should the State of Georgia allocate money from the "Go Fish Georgia" fund to raise sterile grass carp in the new state fish hatchery to control hydrilla in all Georgia waterways?

In answer to this question, 79.05 percent (600 votes) cast ballots in favor of breeding grass carp to control hydrilla.
