Deputy Wilmer Byrd was selected by the Chapter Companions of the Augusta Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars, as Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for Lincoln County.

During his years of service, he has been motivated and dedicated in achieving his assigned tasks in law enforcement. His intelligence, congeniality, and dedication to his duties have been superior, during these years of serving in law enforcement.

Sheriff Gerald S. Lawson, has indicated that his has performed his duties in a superb manner and accomplished valuable tasks. His supervisor, Chief Deputy Marcy Remsen, also indicated that whatever the job required, he never complained and performed his mission in a responsible manner.

The Lord has truly blessed him with a special calling to serve in his church and to teach the Lord's word, also in assisting many citizens in need.

He has truly demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to his community as a Godly leader. This is evident in what he has striven to accomplish and his superior officers and fellow citizens have placed great confidence in him and his ability to per- form his duties and responsibilities in a superb manner. MOWW is truly delighted and honored to recognize Mr. Byrd for his outstanding ability to serve his community, his nation, and his Heavenly Father.

The Military Order of the World Wars is a patriotic non-profit, nonpartisan, veterans organization. The Order was established in 1919 to promote the welfare of our nation. Because it clearly is not a self-seeking organization, the Order is widely respected and listened to throughout all branches of government and across the country.

The Order provides an opportunity for officers of all uniformed services to unite in a strong program to promote national security, patriotism, good citizenship, and service to country.

The Order is comprised of 145 chapters across the nation. The role of the elected staff and national headquarters is to support individual chapters, which are the backbone of the Order. Chapter member should regular meetings to engage in a dialogue on issues of national importance, and to plan for the Order's outreach programs.
