Remsen to seek re-election to District 2 seat

Gail Remsen has announced her intention to seek re-election to the District 2 seat on the Lincoln County Board of Education.

She was first elected to the board in November of 2005 to fill the unexpired term of Marcy Remsen, who had to resign because of a law stating that a person cannot hold an elected office while working for an elected county official.

Commenting on her year and a half as a school board member, Remsen said, "I have found the experience to be a very rewarding one. The decisions I have made have not always been popular ones, but I can assure you that each vote was cast with a lot of thought and prayer.

"Being a property owner myself and a senior citizen, I am very much aware of what a burden increased taxes places on the citizens of this county. I pledge to try to keep taxes as low as possible without sacrificing a quality education for the children of Lincoln County.

"I believe that children are our most valuable resource," the candidate continued. "Their education is of the utmost importance to me, and I want them to have the best we can offer. Right now, we have dedicated teachers, who are preparing our children for college. My goal is to make sure we get and keep the best."

Remsen went on to say, "Educating our children well is important to all the people of Lincoln County, young and old alike. Who knows - we may be producing children, who will one day find a cure for cancer or Alzheimer's or a way to turn out economy around."

The candidate retired as a case manager with the Lincoln County Department of Family and Children Services five years ago, with 34 years of service.

She is a member of the Lincolnton United Methodist Church, where she has taught children in grades K-3 in Sunday School for the past 30 years.

Moreover, Remsen is currently serving as president of the LCHS Academic Booster Club and plans to remain active in that organization during the upcoming school year.

In closing, she said, "I hope the people of District 2 will show their support by electing me to a second term as their school board representative. As always, I remain as close as a phone call to hear your concerns."
