Cadden is guest speaker at CCLC meeting June 19
The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County met June 19 at the public library at 6:30 p.m. President Al Bean opened the meeting. Vice President Linda Burns welcomed the members and visitors. Wade Johnson gave the invocation. President Al Bean led the Pledge of Allegiance.
President Al Bean introduced the candidates for county offices who were present: Wade Johnson for Chairman of the Commissioners, Brenda Danner for Tax Commissioners, Joe Banks for Probate Judge, Cooper Cliatt for District 3 Commissioner, Maurice Cadden for District 3 Commissioner, Gerald Lawson for Sheriff. Each candidate gave a resume of their family, life, and what they would like to do if elected to office.
President Al Bean introduced the guest speaker, Maurice Cadden who is Senior Vice Chairman of American Legion Post 194. Maurice stated American Legion posts were started in 1919 for the purpose of helping World War I veterans and families. The Post 194, along with the auxiliary, support veterans to go to the Augusta hospital, Blue Goose Veterans Home, Boys State, etc. The boys in Boys State are sent to Statesboro, Ga. to participate in all phases of the government and how it works. There is absolutely no expense to the boys who are sent. The legion pays all the expenses.
Mr. Cadden stated they have renovated the club house and have a memorial in front to honor all the veterans. This has been their second family Christmas party and it was a huge success. He explained how veterans could get help for all medications that they need by them. American Legion Post 194 supports Lincoln County in many projects.
Mr. Cadden was thanked by President Al Bean and the audience for enlightening them about the American Legion.
Discussion was held concerning the water levels on the lake, the Corp of Engineers, and talks between the governments of Georgia and South Carolina.
Vice President Linda Burns introduced Nelson Brooks who stated a get together for the Republican party will be held June 22 at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Club House.
Darrell Henderson, District 1 County Commissioner, gave a short talk about the state of the county.
Discussion was held on the primary sample ballots that were distributed to the audience. The three referendum that will be on the Republican ballot were discussed. Wade Johnson stated you go could go online and review them. Profiles of all the candidates were made available to the audience by the CCLC.
Discussion about the new school to be built was held, as well as property tax, and the school board election. All members and visitors were encouraged to vote in the July 15 Primary.
Election of officers was held. President Al Bean was re-elected as was Vice President Linda Burns. Paula Henderson will continue to be secretary.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be July 19 at the Library at 6:30 p.m. There will be a guest speaker. The CCLC meetings are informative as to what the county is doing on different projects. Come and attend the meetings and stay abreast of the business of Lincoln County.
