Clarence Tutt
Clarence Tutt passed away on Thursday morning, May 15, 2008 at University Hospital, Augusta.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 18 at Pleasant Grove CME Church with the Rev. Walter Clayton officiating.
Clarence was born December 24, 1946 in Lincolnton to the late David and Mary Dell Tutt. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove CME Church throughout his life. He was on the Steward board and a Layman where he gave freely of his time and contributions. Clarence was one of the great sons of a "Sharecropper"; he learned many skills and techniques on the farm that he used in his gardening. He was always there to lend a hand or give advice on gardening.
Clarence first attended Pleasant Grove CME Church School and late attended Westside High School. After 34 years of service, he retired from Murray's Bakery Company in Augusta.
He married his wife Lear Bell Benning of Appling, Ga. on September 16, 1967.
Survivors include: his wife Lear Bell of 40 years; three sons Clarence (Demetria) Tutt of Cleveland, Ohio, Abbin (Mablean) Key and Henry (Barbie) Hearst of Lincolnton; two daughters, Pamela (Edward) Brown of Augusta and Martina (Andrew) Hinton of Passaic, NJ; 13 grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; seven sisters, Mary Etta Harris of Lincolnton, Mary Lila (Norman) Beard of Baxley, Ruby Tutt of Augusta, Lillie Cambric of Columbus, GA, Mary Sue Tutt of White Plains, NY, Catherine Triggs of Bronx, NY, and Anne Denmark of Rockchester, NY; four brothers, Wesley (Alice) Tutt, Bobby (Shervon) Tutt both of Lincolnton, David Tutt of Atlanta, and Roger (Claudette) Tutt of Hatch, NM; two aunts, Lillie Blount of Lincolnton, and Louise Gartrell of Waynesboro; three sisters-in-law, Rosa Lee Reid of Thomson, Shirley Tutt and Catherine Tutt both of Palmetto, Ga.; five brothers-in-law, Walter (Regina) Benning of Lincolnton, Henry (Marion) Benning, Robert Willie (Lounette) Benning, and Noble Benning of Appling; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
