Fishing tournament June 21
      A.H. Stephens State Park will be hosting its Annual Senior Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, June 21. Registration will held from 7:30 a.m. to 7:55 a.m. The fishing tournament will began at 8 a.m. and end at 12 p.m. There will be three winner categories, which are the largest fish, the oldest fisherman, and a drawing for a door prize (for participants only).

Georgia State Patrol investigates three traffic accidents here
      State Troopers from the Washington Post of the Georgia State Patrol investigated three traffic accidents during the month of May in Lincoln County. Sergeant First Class Andrews said the traffic accidents resulted in one injury and one traffic death.

HOW MUCH WATER
      After watering, the soil in the vegetable garden should be moist to a depth of 8 to 10 inches, say experts with the University of Georgia Extension Service. If the moisture isn't that deep, evaluate your watering technique. Generally, applying 1 inch of water to the surface will wet the soil 6 to 8 inches deep.

Drought spreads to South Georgia; without rain conditions will worsen
      If dry conditions persist, Georgia is in for a very hot summer. If the drought intensifies, temperatures across the mountains could reach into the middle to upper 90s while the piedmont bakes in the low 100s. Across the coastal plains temperatures in the 104 to 106 range may not be out of the question.

UGA given $1.4 million to study disappearing bees
      Almost half the bee colonies in the United States died last winter. Many were the result of a disorder that causes the colony to literally collapse. Using a $4.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, scientists at the University of Georgia hope to find solutions to the problem that is killing bees in 36 states.
