Banks will enter race for probate/magistrate judge
JOE BANKS Joe Banks has announced his candidacy for the office of probate/magistrate judge of Lincoln County.
Born and reared in Lincoln County, Banks attended county schools prior to earning a Bachelor of Science in business and psychology from Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina.
After teaching for a number of years, the candidate decided to return to Lincolnton in 1976, where he and his wife operated a successful clothing store, known as Dean's, for 26 years.
Banks has always been an active member of the community, serving as a part-time tax assessor for the county, teaching in the Lincoln County School System, and sitting on the committee charged with putting together the financing for the new law enforcement center. He was also a member of the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce's original board of directors and has held numerous offices in the Lincoln County Athletic Booster Club.
Moreover, for a number of years, Banks has served as chairman of the City of Lincolnton's zoning board. He likewise works part time at the Golf de L golf club in Double Branches, and this marks his 19th year as a bus driver for the school system.
The candidate and his wife, Geraldine, have two daughters, Rhonda Newberry and Joanna Waller, and three grandsons, Grif Newberry, Wesley Waller, and Jacob Waller.
Banks attends Bethany United Methodist Church, where he serves as finance chairman and is a member of the men's club.
Commenting on his decision to run for probate/magistrate judge, Banks said, "I feel I have the qualifications as well as the business experience to carry out the duties of this office in a manner whereby all citizens can be proud.
"If you are looking for a man who is trustworthy, loyal, and morally strong, and will treat all equally, I would appreciate your support of my candidacy for the office of probate/ magistrate judge."
