The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County met at 6:30 p.m., April 17 at the Lincoln County Library. President Al Bean opened the meeting. Vice President Linda Burns welcomed the members and visitors. John Kennedy gave the invocation. President Bean then led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The guest speaker for the evening was Lee Anderson, who is a candidate for the State House of Georgia, District 117. Anderson began with his background. He grew up on a farm and now lives in Columbia County, where he continues in diversified farming. Married for 26 years, he has two children. He is an active member of the Baptist church.

Anderson has been a county commissioner and served on the local school board for several years.

The speaker's first topic was his interest in young people. He supports going back to basics in education and teaching moral values to our children, as well as teaching them how to work.

Anderson spoke about the need for police departments, fire departments and other emergency personnel to protect citizens and their homes. He said that protection should come from both the county and state government. In particular, he spoke about the need for senior citizens to live a decent life and get help when they need it.

The water level at Clark's Hill Lake was the next topic. Anderson is in favor of public education on reducing water use and reservoirs to preserve runoff of rain. He would also like to see research on seeds to produce more abundantly with less wa- ter.

On the issue of illegal immigration, Anderson believes we need migrant workers in our country, but we must figure out a way for them to enter legally, and we also need to preserve English as our national language.

Anderson is in favor of the Fair Tax so that everyone would be paying. He said he would like to help Lincoln County develop more clean and good business to stimulate economic growth.

The candidate said that, if elected, his first priority would be to the people of his district. He said that he would always contact the people to find out how they felt about the issues that come up for a vote.

Anderson ended with a question and answer session, followed by thanks from the CCLC for coming and sharing his platform.

Next, the CCLC discussed what to do if you think your property is being unfairly taxed.

They decided to speak further to the County Commissioners on the issue of The Eternal Flame.

The group also decided to participate in Lincoln County Clean-up Day April 26.

Two citizens announced their candidacy at the meeting. Patrick Martini will run for the Lincoln County Commission Chairman position, and Joe Banks will run for the seat of Probate Judge.

The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County invites every citizen to attend their monthly meetings. The next meeting is scheduled for May 15 at the Lincoln County Library.
