Works of art by students from LCHS earned "Best of Show" and other honors in connection with the exhibit now hanging in the MACK (McCormick Arts Council at the Keturah) in observance of March as "Youth Art Month" and "Women's History Month."

The Humane Society of McCormick County was the sponsor of the Fourth Annual Youth Exhibition, which featured 73 impressive pieces created by students of Lori Cope at LCHS. Many of the entries were large self-portraits, painted by members of the senior class in the style of artist Chuck Close.

The results were as follows:

High School Division - Best of Show, Tristan Wynn, LCHS; Second Place, Leighann Paradise, LCHS; Third Place, Lee Anne Boddie, LCHS; and Honorable Mention, Josh Redman and Madison Saggus of LCHS and Catherine Troxler, Randarrius London, Robert Chance, and Jocelyn Edmonds, all from McCormick County High School.

Middle School Division - Best of Show, Daisha Perrin, McCormick County Middle School; Second Place, Javarius Leverette, MMS; Third Place, John Cody, John de la Howe; and Honorable Mention, Robert Lee Storey, Long Cane Academy.

The exhibit also features "The Women of Color," pastel portraits of local women painted by Chris McMullen, a retired nurse and counselor, who moved to South Carolina following her retirement.

Her beautiful portraits were created to celebrate "the beauty, style, and diversity of the female gender."

A well-attended reception was held to mark the opening of the exhibit. Piano music was provided by Shannon Norman, a senior at LCHS, who has studied piano with Jean Gale for over 10 years and performs with Jeff and Sherri Easter on occasion.

Local residents are invited to drop by the MACK, located at 115 S. Main Street, and view this timely exhibit during the month of March. The MACK is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
