It's almost Spring time and Easter is this weekend!
As many of you know, it's Relay time, too!
When you go in the grocery store, stop and pump gas, or doing your banking you may see signs for fundraisers that support Relay for Life. Not many people know what Relay for Life is all about - I wanted to take a chance to explain Relay for Life and why it's so important to our community.
What is Relay for Life? Relay for Life is much more than a walk around a track. It is a time to remember those lost to cancer and celebrate those who have survived. It is a night for people who have shared the same experience to comfort and console one another. Relay gives you the power to help accelerate the Society's progress toward a future where cancer doesn't take the lives of our friends and family.
So what happens when you support the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life? You help us save lives, you help those who have been touched by cancer, and you help empower individuals to fight back against this disease.
Every dollar we raise makes a difference to people in our community whose lives are touched by cancer. The Society has contributed to almost every major discovery in cancer research. Millions of lives have been saved as a result, including people you may know.
For those people and countless others, the research the Society has funded is resulting in better ways to prevent, detect and treat cancer. The American Cancer Society will also continue to exert influence on all levels of government, advocating for stronger policies and enacting legislation that will save lives and conquer cancer.
I think Lincoln County does an awesome job supporting this cause with donations, fund-raiser and people who donate their time trying to get donations for local people and businesses. We appreciate you!!! Next time you see a Relay For Life donation can or fund-raiser sign, stop and think of the people in your life that have cancer, those who are battling cancer, or those who have lost their life to cancer. Please help us raise money for this awful disease.
Our Relay For Life event will be held April 25th, 2008 at Curry Colvin Recreation Complex. We appreciate the individuals and businesses that have taken the time to help us raise money for this event.
