Meg Ball appointed to serve as vice president of Northeast Dist. Board
      Lincoln Co. 4-H'ers attended Northeast District Jr./Sr. DPA at Rock Eagle 4-H Center near Eatonton, Ga. on February 29-March 2. Over eight hundred 4-H'ers from thirty nine counties were present at this northeast district 4-H function. The Northeast District theme for DPA was celebrating 08. Local 4-H'ers in attendance was sisters Kitty and Meg (Hoopie) Ball.

      The Lincoln County Republican Party held its Mass Meeting on March 15 to elect delegates to the 10th District and Georgia Conventions. Mike Seigler, Lyle Kelly, Nelson Brooks and J B Mathews were selected as delegates. The group was reminded that there is no such thing as a super delegate in the Republican Party.

      Dudley Ottley will present "The Battle for Atlanta, 1864" at The Washington Civil War Round Table meeting on Monday evening, March 24 at 6:00 p.m., at The Jockey Club Restaurant on The Square in Washington, GA. Claibourne Darden, Round Table President, says that the public is invited and welcomed. The cost of the meeting is $10 per person and includes a very nice dinner.

      U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson, RGa., and Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., voted for an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2009 Budget Resolution that would stop the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission from suing organizations for requiring English in the workplace.

Isakson votes to expand estate tax relief
      U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, RGa., voted for an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2009 Budget Resolution that would increase the exemption for the estate tax, also known as the "death tax," from $2 million to $5 million.

BLOSSOM-END ROT
      In most cases, blossom-end rot on tomatoes, peppers, squash and watermelons can be prevented, say experts with the University of Georgia Extension Service. Maintaining uniform soil moisture by mulching and watering correctly. Plant in well-drained soil and don't cultivate deeper than 1 inch within 1 foot of the plant. And avoid using high-nitrogen fertilizers.

      Works of art by students from LCHS earned "Best of Show" and other honors in connection with the exhibit now hanging in the MACK (McCormick Arts Council at the Keturah) in observance of March as "Youth Art Month" and "Women's History Month.
