Broun sponsors essay contest

Dr. Paul Broun has announced that he will sponsor an essay contest for students in the 10th Congressional District, which includes Lincoln County.

Broun is asking students to write an essay of up to 250 words on one of the three virtues listed on the banner that wraps around the arch on the Georgia Seal that appears on the state flag. These virtues are wisdom, justice, and moderation.

The pledge to the Georgia Flag states, "I pledge allegiance to the Georgia Flag and to the principles for which it stands: wisdom, justice, and moderation."

In their essays, each student is required to address why the virtue he has selected is important to him as a young person and to Georgia as a state. He must also include a paragraph at the end of the essay about his favorite high school teacher or administrator and how that individual has influenced his life.

Additional contest rules are as follows:

(1) Essays must be typed, preferably in MS Word, double-spaced, and no more than 250 words.

(2) The essays are to be submitted by e-mail to essay@paulbroun.com by no later than April 15.

(3) Contact information must be included in the e-mail.

The students writing winning essays will receive a state flag and a copy of the United States Constitution. They will likewise have their photograph taken with Congressman Broun and their favorite teacher or administrator.

For more information about the essay contest, contact the congressman's Augusta office at 1-706-447-3857.
