Grief recovery support group being formed
A GriefShare grief recovery support group is being established at First Assembly of God.
The meetings will be held at the church every Sunday at 5 p.m., beginning Sunday, February 10.
GriefShare is a special seminar and support group for all those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
Each session features a DVD program, during which top experts on grief and grief recovery tackle issues such as:
.. "Living With Grief." .. "The Journey of Grief." .. "When Your Spouse Dies." .. "Your Family and Grief." .. "Why?" .. "The Uniqueness of Grief." .. "God's Prescription for Grief." .. "Stuck in Grief." .. "The Top 20 Lessons of Grief."
.. "Heaven."
The programs also include on-location segments, dramatic re-enactments, and the real-life stories of people who have experienced the loss of a spouse, child, family member, or friend.
After viewing the DVD, the group will discuss the topics addressed by the experts on the video. Participants will then have the opportunity to interact with others in the group, who are likewise grieving the loss of loved one.
"By sharing our pain and our struggles with grief in a 'safe' environment, we hope to forge a community of understanding, support, and encouragement," said Rev. Phil Campbell, who is serving as one of the group's facilitators. "We want to give people access to the resources and support needed to help them recover from their loss and look forward to rebuilding their lives."
He went on to add, "Individuals are welcome to begin attending the GriefShare group at any time during the 13-week cycle. Each session is 'self-contained,' so the DVDs don't have to be viewed in sequence. Participants will be able to find encouragement and help whenever they begin."
There are currently thousands of GriefShare grief recovery support groups meeting throughout the United States, Canada, and in over 10 other countries.
The local GriefShare group is being sponsored by First Assembly of God for the community at large.
