Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department Dec. 11.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

GED/Adult classes

Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Wed., from 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-3425 or 706-359-5769.

Fellowship program

The Annual 10th District Christian Fellowship Program will be held at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Augusta, on Sat., Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. Rev. Clarence Moore is pastor.

Christmas observance

Prince of Peace Court #124 will celebrate its annual Christmas observance on Sun., Dec. 9, 2 p.m. at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church. Everyone is invited. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Toys needed

AA will meet at Lincolnton United Methodist Church on Thursdays for the month of December at 8 p.m..

Free legal help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Lincoln County at The Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Ave., on Thurs., Dec. 13 from 11:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. to meet with senior citizens wanting free non-criminal legal help, on a firstcome, first-serve basis.

If you are unable to meet with them on this date, you may call 1-800-248- 6697 for legal help.

Christmas at cabin

Log Cabin Christmas will be held at Elijah Clark State Park Dec. 8, 5 p.m. Come join us where life was simple and Christmas was a quiet time with lighted candles, festoons of greenery, hot cider, gingerbread, carols, stories and family.

Angels for sale

Looking for a unique Christmas gift? How about one that will make your loved ones happy and maybe save a life. The Courthouse Crew is selling concrete angels to raise money for Relay For Life. Drop by the Tax Commissioner's office and pick one out. These angels will look great on a mantle, on the front porch or out in your garden. Best of all, every penny of your purchase price will be donated to Relay For Life to help fight cancer. Hurry in as supplies are limited.

We also have bulldog heads available. As with the angels, the purchase price will go to Relay for Life.

Board meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Men's softball

If you are interested in entering a team for adult men's softball fall league, contact the LCRD at 359- 2236.

TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/ 50.

Christmas party

The Faith Tabernacle Church Pastor's Aide Committee will have a Christmas party Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. in the Faith Tabernacle Family Life Center. Tickets are $25 for couples an $15 for singles. Holiday Sing Along

The 5th annual Holiday Sing Along will be on Thurs., Dec. 6, at First Assembly of God Church, beginning at 7 p.m. LCHS choral students will perform many holiday solo's, duets, and trio's of favorite holiday music. The audience will then be asked to join in with the choirs to sing holiday carols. This event is open to the public and there is no admission charge.

Yard sale Fri. & Sat.

Beulah Baptist Church, Hwy. 79 north at Gills Point Rd., will have a huge yard sale Fri. and Sat., Dec. 7 - 8 beginning at 8 a.m.

This is a great opportunity to get some of your Christmas shopping done. All proceeds will go to the Family Life Center.

Barbecue plate sale

Midway Volunteer Fire Department will be selling barbecue pork plates on Sat., Dec. 8. Cost is $6 per plate. Plates may be picked up at Henderson Logging across from R&W.

Tour of Homes

Holiday Tour of Homes, sponsored by the McCormick Garden Club will be held Dec. 8 2007 from 1-5 p.m. Tickets $12 in advance; $14.00 at the door. Tickets are available at the following locations: Garden Club members, The McCray House, The Mack, 7 Daffodils, Red Rooster Antiques, McCormick Chamber of Commerce, and at the homes on tour.

Auxiliary meeting

The Ladies Auxiliary Unit 194 will hold its monthly meeting Thurs., Dec. 13, 7:30 p.m. at American Legion Post 194. The Ladies Auxiliary will also have its annual Christmas party immediately following the meeting, please remember to bring a $10 gift to exchange and an appetizer.

Food Pantry items for the month of December are canned fruit and instant potatoes. Merry Christmas to all from the Ladies Auxiliary Unit 194!

Turkey shoot

The Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 194 will have a turkey shoot Dec. 21 at the American Legion Fairgrounds Fairbooth from 7 - 10 p.m. Food will be available. Come on out for great fellowship.

Youth rally

Salem Baptist Church will sponsor a youth rally on Sat., Dec. 8 from 2 - 5 p.m. Hot dogs and chili will be served at 2 p.m. with live entertainment; Truth's Story will begin at 3 p.m. All teens are invited. Trees for sale

The Kiwanis Club of Washington is once again selling decorated Christmas wreaths to benefit the youth of Washington-Wilkes. Sale price of the Christmas wreaths is $37 with the proceeds going to fund local youth programs.

The wreaths will be sold at the old bookstore next to Tena's Jewelry and Gifts on Wed., Fri. afternoons and Sat. from 10 a.m. Only seventy-five wreaths were made, so get your quickly.

SALS to meet

The Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 194 will meet Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the post home. All members are asked to please attend and bring in a new member.

Silent Auction Dec. 8

The Washington-Wilkes Humane Animal Society's "Silent Auction Extravaganza" will take place Sat., Dec. 8 from 2 until 4 p.m. at the Washington's Lions Club on Spring Street in Washington.

In addition to live music and mouth-watering refreshments, guests will enjoy bidding on a wide variety of items such as sightseeing tours in Gary Ward's Cessna 140; a football autographed by UGA coach Mark Richt; horse-back riding lesson; gym membership and much more.

Classic Re-Runs open

Classic Re-Runs is a non profit clothes shop specializing in good quality, lightly worn clothes for all sizes. They also have household items, dishes and what-knots. All money is used exclusively for Lincoln County Citizens. Donations are tax deductible.

Classic Re-Runs is located at 108 Main Street, next door to China One. Stop by to check out their half-price sales and specials that change weekly.

Post 194 to meet

American Legion Post 194 will hold its monthly meeting Tues., Dec. 18, 7:30 p.m. at the post home. Merry Christmas from American Legion Post 194!

Upward offered

Upward Basketball and Cheerleading is currently open for registration for all boys and girls in K5-6th grades at the First Assembly of God offices. The cost is $45 per child and includes a jersey, t-shirt, water bottle and end of year award. Scholarships are available for any child needing financial assistance.

Health seminar

Do you or someone you know suffer from post-shingles pain - a painful condition that can last for months, even years after shingles are gone?

Parent's night out

The Family Connection and First Assembly of God will host a Parent's Night Out on Sat., Jan. 12 from 6 - 10 p.m. This is open to all children ages four through fifth grade. The cost is $10 for the first child and $5 for each additional child within a family. The evening will include dinner, games, activities and a movie. The event will take place at the First Assembly Family Life Center.

Christmas at Cedar Rock

Macedonia United Methodist Church will present the 7th annual Christmas at Cedar Rock December 6,7, and 8 from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m.

Enjoy a complimentary hayride through thousands of Christmas lights, displays, Bethlehem Village and a live Nativity Scene; have that special talk with Santa (pictures available at a reasonable cost); visit the "Kids Only" shop; pet the animals in our petting zoo; and browse the General Store.

Women's ministry

Christmas concert

First Assembly of God will present a Christmas concernt on Sunday, December 16 at 6 p.m.

The music will include familiar Christmas carols as well as music fromo past Christmas cantatas and will feature soloists and ensembles.

Training courses

The American Red Cross of Augusta will hold Babysitter Training courses on Dec. 28, 2007 at the Columbia County Library, 7702 Evans Town Center Blvd., from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The course is for children between 11 and 15 years of age and teaches skills necessary to provide safe and responsible child care. Participants will also learn how to market themselves as a babysitter including preparing a resume'. Those attending need to bring a sack lunch. Pancake Breakfast at the McCormick Fire Department, 7 - 10 a.m.; Christmas Parade with Santa, 10:00 a.m. on Main Street; pictures with Santa at the Dorn Mill for $1.00, Free Candy canes for the children.

Vote for your pick of the best decorated window while shopping through town. Ballots picked up at the participants and dropped at the Chamber.

McCormick Garden Club will sponsor a Holiday Tour of Homes on Sat., Dec. 8, 1-5 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance, $14 at the door are available from garden club members, The McCray House, Our Place on Main, The MACK, Red Rooster Antiques and at the homes the day of the tour.

Christmas concert

The Lincoln County Red Devil Pride Band Program will present its annual Christmas concert on Monday, December 10, beginning at 7 p.m. in the LCHS Auditorium.

The evening will feature performances by the sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade bands as well as the high school concert band. Also scheduled to light up the stage as guest artists are a few of the school system's talented employees.

There is no admission charge for the concert.

Blood drive

The Lincoln County Blood Drive will be held Saturday, December 8, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Lincolnton Baptist Church.

Sponsored by the Shepeard Community Blood Center, the goal for the drive is 45 units.
