How to get there ... Wilcox County and Rochelle represent one of those places that "you can't get to from here." Well, actually you can but the most direct route will be all two-lane roads betwee towns and the closest thing to an interstate highway will be the crossing of I-16 just south of Dublin. The trip is just over 160 miles and figures to be a good four hours of travelling. So leave early and pack a lunch. There are a lot of towns and cities to go through on the way to Rochelle. The best way, according to Google maps, will take you through Thomson, Wrens, Louisville, Wrightsville, Dublin and Eastman. Continue through Eastman on Georgia Highway 117 and take a slight right on Ga. Hwy. 87 (S. Eastman-Abbeville Highway)and go about 14 miles until it intersects with U.S. Highway 280 (Rhine- Abbeville Highway). Go right toward and through Abbeville about 13 miles to Rochelle. At the first traffic light (Gordon Street), take a left and go six blocks to the dead end at a stop sign. Go left again and the middle school and high school gates will be right there. |
