Thomas Hillyer Wright, Sr.

Mr. Thomas Hillyer Wright, Sr., 83, of White Rock Road, entered into rest on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington, Georgia.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 19 at Lincolnton Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Rosser officiating. Interment followed in Lincolnton City Cemetery.

Mr. Wright was the son of the late Thomas Blanchard and Fannie Norman Wright and was a retired poultry and cattle farmer. He was a member of Lincolnton Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a deacon in 1949, taught Intermediate Class Training Union for many years and was a member of the Men's Adult Sunday School Class. Mr. Wright served his country honorably in the Merchant Marines during World War II, was a member of Masonic Lodge #354, Jip's Sit-A-Spell and was an avid Lincoln County Red Devil football fan.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George A. Wright. A sister, Emily W. Christian, passed away November 17, 2007.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Maudelle D. Wright; a son, Thomas Hillyer Wright, Jr. and wife, Carol of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Katharine Wright, Jeff Wright and Emily Wright; two sisters, Miriam W. Richard and husband, Marvin, and Leila W. Kelley; and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers were Gaines Bell, Tommy Dent, Lee Partridge, Cliff Pounds, Marty Richard and Norman Talbert.

Rees Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
