Burg speaks at CCLC meeting

The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County met November 15th at the Lincoln County Public Library at 6:30 p.m. President Al Bean opened the meeting. Linda Burns, vice-president, gave the invocation. Al Bean led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Guest speaker for the month was Meg Burg of the Zoning and Planning office. She discussed the zoning laws which were accessed in 2003. They are being reassessed for 2008, every five years.

The law concerning accessory structures being placed on land in Lincoln County was one topic. Any structure over 10 feet by 10 feet has to have a permit whether on a permanent foundation or not.

The size of a lot in Lincoln County must be 2.5 acres. A private developer an be a lot size at his discretion.

If you have a mobile home on an acreage, you can not remove the home and place another one in its place. You must put a modular home, manufactured home or a stick home. Meg explained the difference between the modular and manufactured homes. She answered many questions from the members. The CCLC appreciates Meg for taking the time to come and discuss the zoning laws. She does an outstanding job in her department.

The friendship garden meeting was discussed. Members addressed the issues and were able to get these settled.

The eternal flame issue was discussed. This has been turned over to the county commissioners. If nothing is accomplished, this issue will be taken further.

A motion was made to put an article about a locally owned business in The Lincoln Journal once a month. Motion seconded and passed. President will start this process.

Decided that the CCLC will have a booth on Sat., December 1st at the Christmas Festival. Members volunteered to help. Balloons, coffee, sodas and water will be given away. Literature about the CCLC will be available.

Voting for officers for the 2008 year was discussed. President Al Bean is stepping down. Linda Burns will be president pro-term. Jamie Williams, Gail Russ and Marlene Jackson offered to help with computer research, letter writing and all.

A truck will be available to the citizens at the transfer station on Petersburg Road on December 8 to dispose of old computers, cell phones, monitors, key boards, fax machines, telephones, printers and copiers at no charge.

The vice president introduced Wilkes County CCLC members who were visiting our meeting. We were very glad to have them attend and invited them to attend any time.

The meeting was adjourned. There will be no meeting in December. The next meeting will be held January 17, 2008. A guest speaker will be at the meeting.
