Library Check-Out Saturday, December 1, will not only bring Santa Claus and the Christmas parade to town, but also lots of fun and treats at the Lincoln County Library. Friends of the Library will have their semi-annual mega book sale with fantastic prices on hardbacks, paperbacks, reference books, and every type of book imaginable. Stock up for Christmas gifts or reading to help you escape the stress of the holiday season (or to recuperate once it's over). Leonard Jones, popular local artist, will join the FOL hucksters with many paintings for sale. In addition, FOL will be selling tickets on a Leonard Jones painting depicting scenes from Lincolnton's past done especially for FOL and given to us by the artist. Tickets will also be available on a brand new wood chipper donated by Dianne Poteat. The drawings for these are scheduled for Friday, December 21 at 3:30 p.m.. You do not have to be present to win. Come by Saturday and take a look at these two items, buy some chances, and pray for Lady Luck. If you haven't had an opportunity to see or buy much of Leonard's art, this is your chance. We are so grateful to both Dianne and Leonard for their generosity. Santa will be stationed at the library to hear Christmas wishes from the children. Parents may bring their own cameras to take pictures of their child with Santa. This is a rare opportunity to delight youngsters in the community and to get a picture to treasure of your child with the jolly old elf. Face painting will also be available for the kids. There will be a small charge for these activities. But that's not all. If you're hungry, FOL's food booth will be offering chicken and dumplings, hot dogs, and spaghetti to satisfy your palate. To quench your thirst, we'll have the least expensive drinks in town at only fifty cents. You can skip the holiday baking and fill your freezer with cakes, pies, brownies, and cookies from our bake sale. As all of you probably know by now, FOL undertakes its money-making activities in order to provide many extras for the library. We've recently earmarked $1,500 for new books for the Summer Reading Program. Lincoln County Library continues to be one of the best small-town libraries in the state. FOL really appreciates all the support the community gives to help make this possible. We'll see you Saturday! |
