Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department Nov. 20 and Dec. 11.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

GED/Adult classes

Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Wed., from 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-3425 or 706-359-5769.

Spaghetti supper

Lincolnton Masonic Lodge will have a spaghetti supper Fri., Nov. 9 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Dine in or take out. Plates cost $5 each. Tickets may be purchased at the barber shop beside Cullars Inn.

Barbecue fund-raiser

Pine Grove UMC will have a barbecue fund-raiser Sat., Nov. 10. Tickets are not being pre-sold. Come by Reed Propane located at 117 N. Peachtree St. from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Cost is $7 for 1 lb. barbecue pork; $5 1 lb. hash. Money raised will be used to support mission work.

Holiday seminar

A seminar on "Tending to Holiday Stress" will be held on Sat., Nov. 10 from 9 - 11:30 a.m. at the Dova Partridge Annex of the public library. There is no charge for this seminar.

Participants will explore situations that intensify stress and/or depression during the holiday seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas, and consider things they can do to relieve stress and enhance the enjoyment of the holiday season. Leadership will be provided by Rev. Linda P. Jones.

AA meets Thurs.

AA will meet at Lincolnton United Methodist Church on Thursdays for the month of November. The American Legion Post 194 Veteran's Day prog.

family will observe Veteran's Day at 11 a.m. on Sat., Nov. 10 at the Lincoln County Courthouse. The Lincoln County High School Band and Harlem High School ROTC will perform. Refreshments will be served. Please come out and honor the veterans who have fought for our freedom.

Wesleymen in concert

The Wesleymen will be in concert at Bethany United Methodist Church on Sun., Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to come for a night of great gospel singing!

Board meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Pastor anniversary

The church family of Parks Grove FBH Church will celebrate Pastor Tonita Cody's ninth anniversary on Sun., Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. Rev. Dennis Quinn will be the guest speaker. Everyone is invited.

Computer classes

Adult Ed computer classes will be held Nov. 12 -16 for a one week accelerated course, from 2 - 5 p.m. daily for intermediate and advanced. Preregistration and attendance at all five sessions is required. Class size is limited to 15 persons. Call Jim Morrow, EvenStart Technology at 864-391- 2810.

Society meeting

The Lincoln County Historical Society will meet on Wed., Nov. 7 at noon for a cover dish meeting. Pioneer Day will be the next weekend on the 17th, so team leaders will brief the membership on plans and schedules for the big day. Wednesday will also be a work day at the park for the men and anyone who would like to help get ready for Pioneer Day. As always, bring something good to eat.

Conference Nov. 8-9

Solomon Pool Deliverance Ministries have rescheduled the Single & Marriage Conference for Nov. 8-9 beginning at 7:30 p.m. each night. The banquet will be held on Sat., Nov. 10 at 5 p.m.

CCLC to meet

Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will meet Thurs., Nov. 15, 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Library. Guest speaker will be Meg Burg, director of planning and zoning. Residential zoning within the county for mobile homes and stick homes will be discussed along with affordable housing for Lincoln County.

Everyone is welcome to come and be a part of the CCLC.

Post 194 to meet

American Legion Post 194 will hold its monthly meeting Tues., Nov. 20, 7:30 p.m. at the post home.

Pantry closed Nov. 22

The Lincoln County Food Pantry will be closed on Nov. 22, Thanksgiving Day. All clients who would generally report on Thursday, Nov. 22, please report on Mon., Nov. 19.

Prog. at Mt. Zion

Mt. Zion Baptist Church invites every one of their ladies to the White Missionary Program on Sun., Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. The speaker will be pastor Kimberly Leverett of Pauline Chapel in Washington.

Classic Re-Runs open

Classic Re-Runs is a non profit clothes shop specializing in good quality, lightly worn clothes for all sizes. They also have household items, dishes and what-knots. All money is used exclusively for Lincoln County Citizens. Donations are tax deductible.

Fall is the time for country fairs, homespun crafts, and good comfort foods. On November 14, at Tara Country Club, 12:30 - 2 p.m., The Savannah River Christian Women's Connection, in affiliation with Stonecroft Ministries, will feature its country fair fashioned around many homespun crafts, baked goods and our fall auction featuring an authentic, fast talking auctioneer.

We will welcome Martha Cahoon, a multi-talented author and artist, and listen to her share how she saw her future only in shadows of grey until her life was restored and to its canvas the light of hope became visible once again.

Our menu for our luncheon is good country fare - southern fried chicken, pulled pork, fried potatoes, baked beans, salad bar, and corn bread with butter. We top it warm homemade apple cobbler with whipped cream for dessert. A chef's salad can be substituted at time of reservations if you prefer. TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/ 50.

Turkey shoot Nov. 24

Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will sponsor a turkey shoot on Nov. 24 at the American Legion Fairgrounds from 7 - 10 p.m. Food will be available for purchase.

Revival at GHW A three-night revival will be held at God House of Worship Nov. 28 - 30 at 7:30 p.m. nightly with Pastor John Garrett of Gainesville, Ga. Everyone is invited. Beatrice Mahoney is pastor.

Training courses

The American Red Cross of Augusta will hold Babysitter Training courses on Nov. 10 and Dec. 28, 2007 at the Columbia County Library, 7702 Evans Town Center Blvd., from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The course is for children between 11 and 15 years of age and teaches skills necessary to provide safe and responsible child care. Participants will also learn how to market themselves as a babysitter including preparing a resume'. Those attending need to bring a sack lunch. Sparring session

The Augusta Boxing Club will present a special sparring session on Sat., Nov. 10, 10:30 a.m. at the Augusta Boxing Club, 1929 Walton Way, Augusta. The event is open to the public and free.

This session involves Rayonta "Stingray" Whitfield and will be his last sparring workout before departing for Club Med on Turks-Caicos Island in the Caribbean for his 12 round NABO title defense against Domingo Guillen, 36-8 (33 KO's) of the Dominican Republic on Sat., Nov. 17. The match will be held at the Lightbourn Sports Complex on the island and will be televised by ESPN Classic.

Lay Day Program

Pleasant Grove CME Church will have its Annual Lay Day Program Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. Mrs. Janie Franklin of Williams Memorial CME Church will be the guest speaker. Rev. Walter Clayton is pastor.

SALS to meet

The Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 194 will meet Nov. 13, 7:30 p.m. at the post home. All members are asked to please come and bring a new member. Warren Co. chamber to host Sportsmans festival at park area

The Warren County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its 14th Annual Sportsmans Festival from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Warrenton City Park area (Main Street & South Norwood Street) on Saturday, Nov. 10.

This year we have commercial hunting and fishing vendors, as well as other vendors, especially for the ladies, a kids carnival, including inflatable rides and pony rides, Smokey Bear, and demonstrators, featuring

Troy Brazie, a chainsaw artist from Woodstock, Ga. The Jewell Box and VP Racing Fuels is sponsoring the Car Cruise-In.

For information on the cruise-in, please call Andrew Coard at 706-465- 2198. The local American Legion post will have their program at 11:30 a.m. on the Main Stage and there will be live entertainment at 1:00 p.m. with the Thomson Praise Band.

There will also be a free health fair by Tri-County Medical at City Hall during the morning hours. Hal Wheeler of Wheeler True Value Hardware will be conducting an "All About Guns" seminar at his store on Legion Drive at 12:30 p.m.

Engaged couple Amanda McAvoy and Christopher Sanders were honored with a Georgia Bulldog shower on Saturday evening, October 27, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Burgess in Lincolnton, Georgia. Hostesses for the occasion were Chris and Melissa Burgess and Matthew and Stephanie Goldman.

Guests included friends and family of Chris and Amanda. Also present were the prospective bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Sanders, and the bride-elect's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benji McAvoy. Special guests included Amanda's sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Stewart Thomas of Eatonton and Amanda's grandmother, Mary Jane McAvoy of Washington, Ga.

Casual/Georgia Bulldog attire was the dress for the evening and the brideelect chose to wear denim pants and a red and black sweater. The Burgess home was decorated in a Georgia/ Game Day theme with red, white, and black accessories.

Guest enjoyed heavy hors d'oeuvres of chicken strips, pig-nblanket, steak and bacon wraps, spinach dip and chips, vegetables and ranch dip. They also enjoyed a taco bar with all the fixings. Cheese cake bites and brownies were served for dessert.
