Bernard Alexander O'Neill, 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, entered the presence of his Lord on October 15, 2007 at University Hospital.
A private burial service was held at Summerville Cemetery followed by a public memorial service at Bethany Chapel in Augusta, on October 17.
Bernie was a native of Long Island, NY, but had lived most of his adult life in Augusta. In 1995, shortly after retiring from Con Agra Feed Company (formerly Feedright Milling Company) he and his wife Frances moved to Lincolnton, where he became an avid Lincoln County football fan. In 1999, he was honored with the Red Devil Booster of the year award. He was a regular Tuesday morning attendee at Clarks Hill Rental and a faithful Red Devil supporter. Bernie dedicated his life to the service of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was actively involved in Bethany Chapel, Believers Gospel Chapel, and Lakeside Bible Chapel, and served as elder at each. Another ministry that was dear to his heart was his involvement at Camp Hope, in Dahlonega, Ga. where he served as counselor and treasurer for over 40 years. Since moving to Lincoln County he also became involved with a weekly prison ministry and nurs- ing home ministry. There is no way to estimate the number of lives that were influenced directly through this godly man.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Barinowski O'Neill; five children, Alex O'Neill and wife, Dana of Lincolnton, Barry O'Neill and wife, Leslie of Evans, Ga., Harriett Brown and husband, Charlie of Flowery Branch, Ga., Frank O'Neill and wife, Nina of Hamilton, NJ and Bob O'Neill and wife, Carol of Lincolnton; seventeen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Christian Youth Camps, 7011 Pony Lake Rd., Dahlonega, GA. 30533.
