Edwin Reid Drinkard, Sr.

EDWIN R. DRINKARD, SR.
Mr. Edwin Reid Drinkard, Sr., 83, of Augusta Highway, entered into rest on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Heartland Hospice, Augusta.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 22 at Lincolnton Baptist Church with Revs. Dan Rosser and Paul C. Reviere officiating. Interment followed in the Lincolnton City Cemetery.

Mr. Drinkard was the son of the late John P. and Blanche Burton Drinkard. He was a retired farmer and printer. Mr. Drinkard had served in the U. S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Tulagi. Upon returning home from World War II, he assisted his father at The Lincoln Journal, serving as assistant editor. He was a longtime farmer, and was the true definition of a Red Devil fan. He was a member of Lincolnton Baptist Church and the Sit-a- Spell.

He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Homer Drinkard, John P. Drinkard, Jr., Helen D. Turner, and LeVerte D. Moss.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Cartledge Drinkard; three sons, Edwin R. "Eddie" Drinkard, Jr. and wife, Susan of Athens, Ga., Thomas Roy Drinkard and wife, Asha of Athens, and James F. Drinkard and wife, Lynnly of Commerce, Ga.; five grandchildren, Chris Drinkard, Chad Drinkard, Casey Drinkard, Ann Drinkard, and Sara Drinkard; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Drinkard's grandsons, along with Mike McCombs, Larry Campbell and David Moss, served as pallbearers.
