Hurricanes downgraded by power of Devils
By T.J. CARANI

JAFABIAN GREEN breaks free between two Monticello Hurricane defenders.
The Devils proved Friday night that a hurricane could be stopped. The Devil-dominated game ended with a score of 41-0, continuing the Red Devils' perfect season.

As the crowd cheered on the home team, the Hurricanes kicked the ball, starting the game. Alex Ellis recovered the ball on the 30-yard line and returned it 16 yards before being stopped. A 5-yard carry by A.G. Middlebrooks, a carry by Jamareon Green, and a 17-yard carry by Carlous Hearst got the Devils to the 23-yard line. After several small gain plays, Green got the ball and carried it in for a touchdown. Vance Tarver missed the extra point. He then kicked to the Hurricanes and it landed on the 7-yard line.

After three minutes of Monticello control, Hearst intercepted a pass and carried it 78 yards for a touchdown. After Vance Tarver scored the extra point, the score was 13-0. Monticello was forced to punt after four unsuccessful plays. After A.G. Middlebrooks returned the ball 22 yards, and again for 12 yards, the ball was given to Jamareon Green for a 13 yard gain. Jafabian Green then carried the ball in for the game's third touchdown. Following a kick by Vance Tarver, the score was 20-0. After a 22 yard return, the quarter ended.

A.G. MIDDLEBROOKS lost his shoe and still ran 30 more yards to set up a Red Devil touchdown.
The second quarter began with the Hurricanes in possession of the ball. They soon punted the ball, leading to a 16-yard return. A.G. Middlebrooks then carried the ball for a touchdown, bringing the score to 27-0 after the extra point kick succeeded. The kickoff was fumbled, and Jatoyaus Jones returned it for another touchdown. Vance Tarver scored the extra point with his foot, bringing the score up to 34-0. After two small-gain, no-score drives by both teams, Alex Ellis returned a punt for 63 yards, putting the Red Devils squarely on the 5 yard line. A.G. Middlebrooks carried the ball in for a touchdown. A swift kick in the laces by Vance Tarver brought the game's score to 41-0.

For the third time this season, the "rout rule" was brought into effect. The rout rule is a GHSA policy which causes the game clock to run continuously, stopping only for injuries or timeouts in games where one team is ahead of another by 30 or more points. This rule has also been in initiated against Harlem and Aquinas this year. The half ended with a running clock.

An amazing halftime show of the Monticello marching band's Moulin Rouge musical performance and the Lincoln County Red Devil Pride band's performance of "The Temptations'" greatest hits preceded a half where no points were put on the board.

Monticello came amazingly close to a touchdown, but their runner was stopped by the defensive "wall" that decimated Aquinas. Lincoln County's second string players got some important field time during the half, showing some promising capabilities and motivation. In the final two minutes of the game, the Hurricanes carried the ball fivetimes for three yards each time. Karlton Walker got in the game's final defensive hit, stopping the sudden offensive drive from continuing.

Next week's game is against Hancock Central in their new stadium. It starts at 7:30 p.m. Come out and stand next to the Red Devils' fire.
