Doris Ashmore Goolsby

Mrs. Doris Ashmore Goolsby, 88, beloved wife of the late Ralph Goolsby, entered into rest peacefully at the home of her son, Dempsey Goolsby in Marietta, Ga. on Tuesday, October 2, 2007.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 7 at Martin's Crossroads Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Paul C. Reviere officiating. Interment followed in New Hope Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Goolsby was the daughter of the late Robert L "Bob" Ashmore and the late Kate Burgess Ashmore. She was a homemaker, seamstress and faithfully attended Martin's Crossroads Congregational Holiness Church until her vision failed. She was also a second mother to younger siblings after the untimely death of their mother. Mrs. Doris "Maw Maw" was a faithful wife for 39 years, loving mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert W. "Bo" Ashmore and C. Evans Ashmore.

Survivors include two sons, Ira Dempsey Goolsby of Marietta and R. Payton Goolsby of Hartwell, Ga.; one daughter, Beverly Goolsby Bentley of Evans, Ga.; four sisters, Irene Tankersley and Mable Edmunds of Lincolnton, Katrina Newby of McCormick, S.C. and Linda Guin of Tignall, Ga.; two brothers, Rev. Pierce Ashmore of Gainesville, Ga. and Robert "Bobby Lee" Ashmore of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Ben E. Bentley, Jr. of Martinez, Ga., Beverly Ann Bentley McCrary of Evans, Brian G. Bentley of Evans, Ashley N. Goolsby of Hartwell and Danielle D. Goolsby of Marietta; a step grandson, Max A. Johnson of Hartwell; four greatgrandchildren and two step greatgrandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were Ben E. Bentley, Jr., Brian G. Bentley, Robert E. McCrary, Max A. Johnson, Darrell Newby and Steve Ashmore.

Rees Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
