Mr. Major Ulysses Elam, Sr., 47, entered into rest on Saturday, September 8, 2007.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12 at Mulberry CME Church with Rev. Larry Fryer officiating.
Mr. Elam was the seventh child of eleven born to the late Mr. John Elam and Mrs. Lois Bohler Elam. He was employed by Elijah Clark State Park as a park ranger senior for 27 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, his brother, Jenkins Elam and his step-father-in-law, J.L. Hill.
Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Amy Hill of Lincolnton; three children, Kathleen Coppetta Elam, Major Ulysses Elam, Jr. and Johnetta Ulysa Elam, all of Lincolnton; his mother, Lois B. Elam; four sisters, Jennifer Walker of Lincolnton, Levurn Elam of Lithonia, Ga., Margaret Ellis of Columbia, S.C., and Alma Crite of Stone Mountain, Ga.; six brothers, Larry (Cecily) Elam, Morris (Willie Ruth) Elam, and Ricky (Denise) Elam, all of Lexington, N.C., Johnny Elam of Decatur, Ga., Obia (Brenda) Elam and Tracy (Melecia) Elam, both of Augusta, Ga.; motherin law, Mary Ellen Hill of Louisville, Ga.; father-in-law, Thomas (Marion) Jackson of Jacksonville, Fla.; six sisters in-law, Gwendolyn Elam of Lexington, Dorothy (Rev. Judson) Scott of Augusta, Tonya Coleman of Beach Island, S.C., Shirley Jackson of Philadelphia, Penn., Pamela (George) Hampton of Brunswick, Ga., and Vicky Jackson of Jacksonville; five brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Cathy) Hill, Sr. of Riverdale, Ga., Minister Derrick (Minister Eva) Hill, Sr. and Earl James Hill, both of Louisville, Ricky Jackson of Atlanta, Ga., and Calvin (Sharon) Hill of Powder Springs, Ga.; seven aunts, Lizza Love and Rosa Lee Stokes, both of Augusta, Dorothy Crite of Stone Mountain, Mary Wyatt of Decatur, Emma Bennett of Lexington, Alice Elam of Lincolnton, and Margaret Bohler of Atlanta; four uncles, Addie Bohler, Jr. of Decatur, E.W. Reid of Lincolnton, Willard Bennett of Lexington and Randolph (Trina) Coppett, Jr. of Augusta; God mother, Effie Parks of Appling, Ga.; God brother, Lester (Katie) Green of Augusta; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
