Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department Sept. 25 and Oct. 23.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

Choir anniversary

Mt. Zion Baptist Church will have its choir anniversary Sun., Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. All choirs are invited to attend. Rev. Robert Crawford is pastor.

GED/Adult classes

Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Wed., from 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-3425 or 706-359-5769.

Barbecue plate sale

Beulah Fire Department will sell barbecue plates Sat., Sept. 22 from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. You can eat in or take out. Plates will consist of barbecue pork, baked beans, cole slaw, Texas toast, drink and desert and cost $7 per plate.

Parks Grove cruise

Parks Grove Church welcomes you to cruise with them Mon., June 30 - Sat., July 5. Will leave from Miami and visit the Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, and Nassau. Cost is $850 - $965 per person depending on number of people in the room. Price includes cruise, gratuities, and transportation to and from Miami. Rates are subject to change if deposit of $100 is not made by Sept. 16.

Friday service

Solomon Pool Deliverance Church in Lincolnton will have service on Fri., Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Minister Willie Joe Ware from New York, N.Y. Minister Ware graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1975.

The public is invited to attend. Rev. Peggy Ware Zellars is pastor.

Homecoming at Loco

Loco Baptist Church will have Homecoming on Sun., Sept. 9, with Sunday school at 9:45 and worship services at 11 a.m.

Special guest speaker will be Jackie Perkins of Day Springs Church in Augusta, Ga. Southern Harmony will sing after the barbecue lunch. Come on out and visit.

McKameys to perform

Gospel singing group The McKameys will perform at First Assembly of God on Thurs., Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. The McKameys, who consist of Ruben Bean, Peg McKamey Bean, Connie Fortner and Carol Woodard, have been singing for almost four decades. They have been honored with many nominations and awards including 14 number one songs. A love offering will be received and a nursery will be provided. Fund set up

A fund has been set up at Farmers State Bank for Tee Turner, who is battling Lou Gehrig's disease.

Pastor anniversary

Ebenezer Baptist Church invites the public to Rev. Fred Perriman's third anniversary on Sun., Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. Rev. Willie J. White and Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will be the special guests.

Board meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

TIA registration drive

The Twilight Improvement Association, Inc., will sponsor a Voter Registration Drive on Sat., Sept. 22 from 8 a.m. - 12 noon at the Curry Colvin Recreation Complex, 1962 Rowland York Dr., Lincolnton. The purpose of the drive is to register citizens not currently registered and to obtain updated information on electors currently registered.

Ware to speak

True Fellowship Pentecostal Church invites the public to worship with them on Sat., Sept. 22, 7 p.m. with guest speaker, Minister Willie Ware, III from Brooklyn, N.Y. Bishop James Ware is pastor.

Fall retesting

The fall retesting for the Graduation Test will be held according to the following schedule:

Mon., Sept. 10 - language arts; Tues., Sept. 11 - math; Wed., Sept. 12 - social studies; Thurs., Sept. 13 - science.

All tests will begin promptly at 8:15 each morning. Students and others who have not passed all parts of the Graduation Test are urged to participate in the testing.

CCLC to meet

The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will meet Thurs., Sept. 20, 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Library. Guest speaker will be Kelvin Williams, executive director of the Lincoln County Board of Elections.

Dance at Post 194

Birthday celebration

Former active duty Marines and guests will celebrate the 232nd birthday of the United States Marine Corps on Saturday, November 10. The celebration, which includes dinner and a short program, will be held at Tara dining room. Chambers to speak

Lincolnton Baptist Church invites all ladies to "A Love Like No Other" Sat., Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. with guest speaker Suzanne Chambers of Athens, Ga. Cost is $7 per person. This includes a light breakfast and lunch.

Tribute to 9-11

Student Council members are kicking off the year with a tribute to Sept. 11 and those that have given their life for our country by selling bracelets and ribbons for 50-cents each at the high school throughout the week.

All proceeds will go to the 22- month-old daughter of Sgt. Harris from Liberty, Miss., who gave his life in Afghanistan on Aug. 4.

Couples banquet

Solomon Pool Deliverance Ministries of Lincolnton will have Single & Married Couples Conference Sept. 27-28 at 7:30 p.m. nightly, at the church. A banquet will be held for the couples at the Lincolnton Club House on Sept. 29, 5 p.m.

Looking for old photos

Salem Baptist Church is looking for old photographs of the church and/ or church activities. The members will be celebrating the 180th anniversary of the church on Oct. 21 with a Homecoming service and meal.

Ladies Bible study

Classic Re-Runs open

Classic Re-Runs is a non profit clothes shop specializing in good quality, lightly worn clothes for all sizes. They also have household items, dishes and what-knots. All money is used exclusively for Lincoln County Citizens. Donations are tax deductible.

Classic Re-Runs is located at 108 Main Street, next door to China One. Stop by to check out their half-price sales and specials that change weekly.

Auxiliary meeting

The Ladies Auxiliary Unit 194 will meet Thurs., Sept. 13, 7:30 p.m. at the post home. All members are encouraged to attend and new members are welcome.

Please remember to bring the following items for the Food Pantry: bleach, laundry detergent and dish detergent.

A fund for Taffy Ivey has been established at Farmers State Bank to aid with medical expenses due to an illness she's been dealing with the past two years.

Selling spirit items

The Cheer Devils will be selling spirit items at the Lincoln County Elementary School Fri., Sept. 14 from 7:45 - 8:15 a.m. All items $1.

Legal help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Lincolnton to meet with senior citizens wanting free, non-criminal, legal help on a first come, first serve basis on Wed., Oct. 17, 11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. at The Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Ave.

If you are unable to meet with them on this date, you may call 1-800-248- 6697 for free legal help.

SAL celebrates 75th

The Sons of the American Legion, created in 1932, will celebrate its 75th birthday Sept. 12-15. SAL is made up of boys and men of all ages whose parents and grandparents served in the United States Military and became eligible for membership in the American Legion. Sons assist legionnaires with legion family programs.

ACT testing

The next ACT test will be administered on Oct. 27, 2007. Students who wish to take the college admission and placement exam must register by Sept. 21 - the deadline for having the registration postmarked. There is an additional late registration postmark deadline of Oct. 5, however, an extra fee is charged for late registrations. Students can register online at www.actstudent.org or pick up registration forms from high school counseling offices.

The cost is $30 for the traditional ACT and $44.50 for the ACT Plus Writing.

SpiritFest Nov. 3

New Beginning Independent Methodist Church located on Tobe Wells Rd., Elberton, will have its third annual SpiritFest Nov. 3 beginning at 6 p.m.

This year's guest of honor will be Brighter Future of Solid Rock Family Worship Center. Also on the program will be The Walker Brothers of Athens, Shannon Cox of Lincolnton, Mrs. Jennifer Fortson and family and The Hughes Sisters, all of Elberton.

Prayer breakfast

The women of Faith Tabernacle Church will have a Women's Prayer Breakfast at 8 a.m. on Sat., Sept. 29. The theme is "Let the Mind of the Master Be the Master of Your Mind."

Boating class

Thurmond Lake Sail & Power Squadron will offer the last squadron boating class (formally known as boat smart) for the year consisting of four consecutive Tues. and Fri. afternoon sessions from 1 - 4 p.m. on Sept. 11, 14, 18 and 21. Classes will be held at the McCormick Public Library located at 201 Railroad Ave.

Fundraising day

Purvis School Rally Fundraising Day will be held Sat., Sept. 29 from 12 noon until midnight, with an old fashion barbecue plates and gospel concert. Cost is $12.50 per person at the gate. Bethel Under the Blood Deliverance Church of the Living God will have revival services Sept. 22-23 at 7 p.m. nightly with Evangelist Janice Bynum.
