Food for thought What is junk food? It is food that is high in fat, sugar, salt or calories. Junk food might taste good, but it is not good for you - especially if you eat it often. Junk food is often loaded with fat so limit the cheeseburgers, French fries, chicken nuggets, cookies, pies and chips. Junk food can be full of sugar so limit the sweetened cereals, doughnuts, sodas and candy. Junk food has too much salt so limit the potato chips, French fries, hotdogs, and almost all packaged foods or frozen meals. Remember that soda and other sugary drinks are junk food too. Eating too much junk food leaves less room for healthy foods. Healthy foods keep your body strong and give you energy throughout the day. Eating a healthy diet also lowers your risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. |
