Quick thinking saves church

Due to the quick thinking of George Davis, a member of St. Luke Baptist Church on Metasville Road, what could have been a catastrophic fire resulted in only minimal damage to the church's fellowship hall. According to Ernie Doss, director of the Lincoln County Department of Public Safety, "When Mr. Davis arrived at St. Luke at about 8 a.m. on Friday, August 17, he noticed smoke and flames coming from the front porch of the fellowship hall. After knocking down the fire with a bucket of water, he ran to the house across the street and summoned help. Because of Mr. Davis' actions, we (the county and Loco VFD) were able to extinguish the fire quickly, with very little damage to the church." It appears as if the fire was electrical in nature.
