Board members complete GSBA training activities The members of the Lincoln County Board of Education were recently recognized for successfully completing board member training activities, sponsored by the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA). Receiving certificates of recognition at the August 7 meeting of the board of education were Chairman Robert Williams, Gail Remsen, Robert Hearst, Wayne Williford, and Becky Reed. Georgia was among the first states in the nation to require that local school board members receive training in order to ensure quality educational leadership. During the course of the year, board members attended training sessions that addressed such topics as Georgia's Quality Basic Education (QBE) Act, budgeting and financing, legal and policy issues, school and community relations, and the roles and responsibilities of the school board. "By participating in training and board development activities, local school board members show their dedication to improving the educational system for the students within their communities," said Jeannie M. "Sis" Henry, executive director of the GSBA. "Lifelong learning doesn't just apply to our students, it applies to all of us - especially those in leadership positions in public education." The GSBA is a non-profit association representing Georgia's locally elected school boards. |
