Quick response contains hay field fire

A fire, which started at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, destroyed approximately 10 acres of land owned by Edwin Drinkard on the Augusta Highway. According to Ernie Doss, director of the Lincoln County Department of Public Safety, Talmadge Reed was having the hay cut on the property when a hay baler overheated, burst into flames, and set the field on fire. With temperatures well over 100 degrees, none of the firemen were injured in the blaze, which was under control by 4 p.m. In addition to the Lincoln County Department of Public Safety, other agencies on the scene included Martin's Crossroads VFD, Loco VFD, Midway VFD, the Georgia Forestry Unit, and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
