Shirley Crook breaks mirror and hits jackpot the same day

Shirley Crook (c) of Lincolnton recently won $30,000 playing "Cashword" at Fast Times Convenience Store. She is pictured here with Fast Times employees Megan Edmunds (l) and Beverly Williams.
Shirley Crook of Lincolnton recently shattered the superstition that breaking a mirror brings bad luck.

On the same day she broke a mirror, Crook won $30,000 playing the instant game "Cashword."

The grandmother of seven said she enjoys playing the game and purchased the winning ticket at Fast Times Convenience Store.

"I was at my sister's house that day when I accidentally broke a mirror," stated Crook, a former hairdresser. "I thought that I'd have seven years of bad luck, but I guess it went the other way."

Concerning her plans for the money, she said she and her husband, Reuben, are planning to remodel their home.

The Crooks have two adult children.

"I don't believe this," the lottery winner exclaimed. "I feel lucky in health, in love, and in life."

Since its inception, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.3 billion to the State of Georgia for education.

All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including the HOPE Scholarship Program and the state's prekindergarten program. More than one million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 four year olds have participated in the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
