Justice attends conference

As part of his continuing education and training in the administration of law enforcement, Jim Justice, chief of the Lincolnton Police Department, recently attended the 2007 Annual Summer Training Conference, sponsored by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP).

This year's conference was one of the largest ever held, with heads of law enforcement agencies from throughout the state participating in the four-day event, which took place July 29-August 1 at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center.

Chief Justice was among more than 425 heads of law enforcement agencies attending the 40th Annual GACP Summer Training Conference. In addition to the chiefs, a significant number of departmental command staff was also present to learn about training topics that will benefit their respective departments and communities.

The topics covered at the annual conference included "Threats and Those Who Threaten," "Twelve High-Risk Critical Tasks in Law Enforcement," "Maritime Security," "The Role of Parole in Public Safety," "Crimes Against Children," "Legal Update," "Civil Liability," "Security in the Academic Environment," and "Managing the FTO (Field Training Officer) Program - A Chief's Perspective."

During the conference, Hubert Smith, chief of the Rome Police Department and president of the GACP, challenged the chiefs to "take back the professional management training that you received at this year's conference to provide a higher quality of life for the citizens you serve."

The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police is responsible for the delivery of training to the chiefs of Georgia's police departments and law enforcement agencies.
