Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department August 21 and Sept. 25.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information Anthony Chapel UMC in Lincolnton Auxiliary Unit to meet The Ladies Auxiliary Unit 194 will meet Thurs., Aug. 9, 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post. All members are encouraged to attend and new members are welcome. Please attend and find out what we are all about.

Please help support the food pantry and bring the following items for the month of August: canned tomatoes, ketchup and mustard.

Planning meeting

Classes of 1942-1967 from the Lincolnton Colored High School and Lincoln County Training School will have a planning meeting Sun., Aug. 12, 4 p.m. at the public library. Please plan to be in attendance.

Homecoming service

Anthony Chapel UMC in Lincolnton, will have homecoming services Aug. 19 with services beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Susannah Davis as special guest.

CCLC to meet

The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will meet Thurs., Aug. 16, 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Library. Guest speaker will be Kenny Adair, Lincoln County Chief Appraiser. County exemptions will be discussed. Everyone is welcome to come be a part of CCLC.

Wilson to speak

Minister Wilson of Water Family Christian Center in Augusta, will speak at Parks Grove on Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m.

Minister Wilson serves as senior minister and is currently enrolled at Andersonville Theological Seminary where she's completing her bachelor's degree.

LWREA to meet

The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association (LWREA) 2007- 2008 planning meeting will be held Thurs., Aug. 9 at Callaway Plantation School House, 2160 Lexington Road, Washington, Ga. at 11 a.m.

Please bring your 2006-2007 GREA copy of awards and recognition committee guidelines. All retired educators are invited to attend. Frances F. Zellars is president.

Fund set up

A fund has been set up at Farmers State Bank for Tee Turner, who is battling Lou Gehrig's disease.

Pool now open

The pool is now open at the Lincoln County Recreation Department. Hours are Tues. - Sat., 12 noon - 6 p.m. Cost is $2 per person.

Revival at Newberry

Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will have revival Mon., Aug. 13 - Thurs., Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. nightly. Rev. Coy Henderson, pastor of Popular Spring Baptist Church will be the guest minister. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Revival services

First Baptist Church will have revival services Aug. 27 - 30 at 7:30 p.m. nightly with Rev. William Smith, pastor of Isarel Baptist Church in Atlanta. Rev. Dennis Quinn is pastor.

LCES Council meeting

The Lincoln County Elementary School Council will meet Aug. 14 at 7:30 a.m.

Soccer registration

Soccer registration for the Lincoln County Rec. Dept. will be held July 30 - Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Rec. Dept. for children ages 5 - 13. Cost is $35 per child. For more information, contact the LCRD at 706-359-2236 or call 706-401-1873.

Reunion meeting

The Blackmon and Wynn's final family reunion meeting will be held Sat., Aug. 11, 5:30 p.m. at Idell and Roy Andrews home.

Movie night

Movie Night Under the Stars will be held at Faith Temple Church Fri., Aug. 17 at 9 p.m. (rescheduled for Sat., Aug. 18 at 9 p.m. if raining). Donations of $5 per adult and $3 per child age 4-10 are requested.

Bring a lawn chair to watch A Walk to Remember in the open field behind the church or choose Happy Feet playing in the fellowship hall. Concessions will be sold during the movies. All proceeds will go to Faith Temple's Young Adult Class.

Board meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Looking for old photos

Salem Baptist Church is looking for old photographs of the church and/ or church activities. The members will be celebrating the 180th anniversary of the church on Oct. 21 with a Homecoming service and meal.

Anyone with photographs pertaining to the church are asked to please call June Cox at 706-359-4584.

Legal help for seniors

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Lincolnton to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal, non-criminal help on a firstcome, first-serve basis Wed., Aug. 15 from 11:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at The Lincoln Senior Center, 160 May Ave.

Prayer Walk

The Lincoln County Ministerial Association invites the Christian community to take part in this year's Annual Prayer Walk for our schools, teachers, staff, students and administration to be held Thurs., Aug. 9, 7 p.m. at Lincoln County Elementary, Middle and High Schools.

SALS to meet

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will meet Aug. 14, 7:30 p.m. at the post home. All members are asked to please attend and bring in a new member, we want to have a great year.

TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/ 50.

Family reunion

The annual reunion of the Freeland- Crawford family descendants of James Manning Corey Freeland and Caroling Augusta Butler Freeland, will be held Aug. 12, 12:15 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, Plum Branch, S.C. Please bring a picnic lunch and tea.

Benefit barbecue

New Work Baptist Church Brotherhood will have its second annual benefit barbecue sale on Aug. 18. The menu will consist of barbecue, hash and rice, slaw, baked beans, bread, tea and cake. Call 706-359-1480 for more information. The proceeds from the sale will benefit the community through Brotherhood projects.

The ladies of NWBC WOM will also be holding a bake sale the same day with all proceeds going to missions.

Reserved seating

Reserved seats for the 2007 Red Devil football season will be on sale at the high school office beginning Mon., Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

If you have purchased season tickets in the past, your seats will be held until Wed., Aug. 29 at which time they will be released to those on the waiting list. Please notify the school if you do not wish to purchase your seats. The cost is $40 for the season.

Walker reunion

The annual Walker reunion for the descendants of Daniel Lumpkin Walker and connected families will be held August 19th at Fishing Creek Baptist Church. A covered dish dinner will be served at 1 PM. Please plan to bring your favorite dishes to share.

Author, Tom Poland, will give a short program on his new novel 'Forbidden Island: An Island Called Sapelo' and sharing his experiences as an 'Extra' in George Clooney's movie Leatherheads.

Golf tourney

John de la Howe School will hold an Open Golf Tournament Sat., Aug. 25 at Monticello Golf Course in Mc- Cormick, S.C. Cost is $70 per player. Registration is at 12 p.m. with shotgun start at 1 p.m. Pre-registration required no later than Aug. 17.
