USGS confirms 2.5 earthquake at city limits The United States Geological Survey (USGS) in Golden, Colorado, has confirmed that Lincoln County experienced an minor earthquake at 11:11 a.m. Thursday, July 19. With a magnitude of 2.5 on a scale of 2 to 8, the epicenter of the earthquake was just outside the Lincolnton city limits. Fortunately, a quake with a magnitude of 2.5 to 3 is the smallest generally felt by people. According to Ernie Doss, director of the Lincoln County Department of Public Safety, approximately four calls were made to the E-911 center concerning rumbling and shaking in the city, the Soap Creek area, and the Chamberlain's Ferry Community. "Although no damage was reported, one caller did state that picture frames had fallen onto the floor," said Doss. |
