Margaret Mae Mertins weds Kevin Andrew Cargle May 19

In a lovely setting, Miss Margaret Mae Mertins of Albany and Athens, Ga., became the bride of Mr. Kevin Andrew Cargle of Douglasville, Ga. They exchanged their wedding vows on Saturday, May 19, 2007, at 6 p.m. at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. The double-ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Nathan Carl Godley.
The bride is the daughter of Ms. Lynne Ranew-Mertins and Mr. Dennis Charles Mertins, Sr., both of Albany. Mr. Cargle is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Wilburn Cargle of Douglasville, Ga.
The bride was escorted to the groom by her father. She wore a Casablanca gown of candlelight satin and embellished with crystals and pearls. The scooped neckline embellished with crystals and pearls flowed into the deep v-neck of the gown. The embellishment adorned the waistline and was carried throughout the train of the gown. The bride wore a tiara of matching crystals and pearls and a long veil of tulle trimmed with tiny pearls. Miss Mertins carried a bouquet of antique roses and small white and silver Bible given to her by her aunt, Mrs. Dempsey Guillebeau. She wore a handmade blue garter also worn by her mother. In her shoe, she wore a six pence given to her by her mother on a trip they took together to London, England when she was 15. On her right hand, she wore the wedding band of her grandmother, the late Ida Mae Hayes Ranew, which is always worn by her mother.
Maid of honor was Miss Kristin Cullars Carter of Athens and Nashville, Tenn. Her attendants were Miss Ida Nicole Barnett, cousin of the bride, Miss Emily Rebecca Davis of Albany and Athens, Miss Colleen Mackenzie Rocks of Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Holley Durham French of Alexandria, Va., Miss Blaire Nicole Knighton of Wheaton, Ill., and Miss Elizabeth Ashley Youngblood of Mobile, Ala. The bridesmaids all wore champagne gowns with rushing skirting and Celedon sashes and shawls and all carried bouquets of gypsophelia, roses and hydrangeas. Each bouquet was wrapped with ribbon and fastened with each bridemaids' initial pen. Each bridesmaid wore a handmade matching necklace of crystal and pearls and beads to match their gowns and handmade earrings which were all gifts to the attendants from the bride.
Miss Mary Rachel Bonner and Miss Shayna Leigh Mertins, nieces of the bride, attended the bride as flower girls and wore matching white gowns of tulle and ivory sashes. Each girl wore flowers in their hair and carried rose balls down the aisle. They each wore pearl necklaces and bracelets, gifts from the bride.
Mr. Keith Wilburn Cargle of Douglasville served as his son's best man. Mr. Cargle's attendants were Mr. Zackery Cargle of Douglasville and Mr. Bradley Cargle of Villa Rica, both brothers of the groom. Mr. Seth Thomas of Douglasville, cousin of the groom, Mr. Calen Camp of Winston, Mr. Kevin Pate also of Winston, and Mr. Chris Rigsby of Douglasville. Mr. Troy Hayes Barrett, cousin of the bride, and Mr. Dennis "D" Charles Mertins, Jr., brother of the bride, both served as ushers.
The wedding music was provided by organist, Mr. Johnothon Durcuvic of Fitzgerald. A duet was sung by Mrs. Marci McCarty and Mr. Troy Hayes Barnett, cousin of the bride. Solos were sung by Mr. Troy Hayes Barnett and Mrs. Ruthie Garner.
Following the ceremony and presentation of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Andrew Cargle all wedding guests were invited to a celebration at the home of the bride and her mother. The guests were entertained by the band, Relapse of Albany. Mrs. Joan Murphy Shaddock greeted the guests upon arrival. Mrs. Mertins' staff served the guests and handled the reception.
Following the reception, the couple left for a Caribbean cruise stopping at ports in Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Cayman Island and Cozumel. They will return to their home in Douglasville where the groom is employed by Graystone Electric in Douglasville. Mrs. Cargle will begin work in the fall at Central High School in Carrollton and continue with her education.
