David Hardy receives Doctor of Medicine from MCG May 11

David Hardy of Washington-Wilkes received his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine during commencement ceremonies May 11 at the James Brown Arena in Augusta. He has completed all National Board of Medical Examiners requirements.

During his four years as a medical student, Hardy received the Peacock family award in Medical Neuroscience for the highest final grade in his class, and the Peacock family award in Gross Anatomy for the third highest grade.

He was chosen as one of four students from his class to teach gross anatomy to physician assistants and received the Ty Cobb scholarship during all four years while attending MCG.

While in medical school, Hardy was involved in two research articles published in two national scientific journals. The Journal of Pharmacalogic and Experimental Therapy and The American Journal of Dermatopathophysiology.

Hardy has successfully passed the two parts of the United States Medical Licensing Exams in order to graduate from medical school. He has membership in the American College of Surgeons, American College of Physicians, American Medical Student Association, American Medical Association and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.

On Match Day, March 15, Hardy discovered that he would be continuing his medical education for another five years in a general surgery residence at the Medical College of Georgia, his top choice.

Hardy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Stewart of Washington and Mr. and Mrs. Pete (Marion) Hardy of Lincolnton. He is a graduate of Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Biology with honors from Augusta State University.
