John and Rosalyn Hawkins honored on 60th anniversary

John and Rosalyn Hawkins celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 1, 2007. On Saturday, May 19, Cara and Robert Smalley hosted a party at their home in Augusta for the immediate family to celebrate the occasion.

Preston and Don Taliaferro of Griffin were co-hosts.

The party was attended by the Hawkins' grandchildren, Jennifer and Alex Yankowsky of Marietta; Jill and Steve Cosgrove of Marietta; and Elizabeth and Michael Head of McDonough.

Special guests were the greatgrandsons, Morgan and Andrew Yankowsky. The Hawkins' grandson, John Taliaferro, was not able to attend because he was participating in a study abroad program through the University of Georgia.

The evening began with a surprise visit form some Augusta friends, Pam and Larry Demeyers, Margaret and Bruce Ellen, and Carol Eubank, for appetizers of jumbo shrimp, cheese straws, and vegetables with dill dip.

The highlight of the evening was a video presentation of photos of their life beginning with their marriage, childhood pictures of their two daughters, pictures of their daughters' weddings, childhood pictures of their four grandchildren, pictures of their granddaughters' weddings, marriages, and pictures of their greatgrandsons.

Jill Cosgrove prepared the video that was accompanied by the Kenny Rogers son "Through the Years".

Preston Taliaferro gave a special prayer of thanks for her parents before dinner. Dinner included pork roast, green beans, new potato salad, strawberry congealed salad, with rolls. The dessert, prepared by Kathy Boyles of Tastefully Done, was a chocolate pound cake decorated with "60th Anniversary" in honor of the event.
