Betty Jane Wright

Miss Betty Jane Wright, 75, of Double Branches Road, entered into rest on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at her residence.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 9 at Lincolnton City Cemetery with Rev. T.G. Hall officiating.

Ms. Wright, daughter of the late Moody L. and Gertrude McNair Wright, was born on October 8, 1931. She was a lifelong resident and member of Lincolnton Baptist

Dulcimer concert

On Saturday, June 16th Elijah Clark State Park invites you to attend the Mountain Dulcimer Concert. From 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Log Cabin Museum the Garden City Strummers will be playing and instructing. The Mountain Dulcimer is an early American instrument from the Appalachian Mountains. The players will demonstrate how easy it is to learn, and you are guaranteed to leave playing your own familiar tune!

Family, friends day

Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church Stewardess will have its annual Family and Friends Day program Sun., June 17 at 2:00 p.m. Evangelist Roberta Murray and C.S. Hamilton male choir from Tabernacle Baptist Church Augusta, Ga. will be the guest. All family and friends are invited to attend. Rev. Walter Clayton pastor.

Boat Smart class

Thurmond Lake Sail & Power Squadron will be offering another Boat Smart Class in June consisting of five Monday and Wednesday afternoon sessions from 3-5 p.m. Classes will begin on Wed., June 13, continuing on June 18, 20, 25, and 27. Classes will be held at the McCormick Public Library located at 201 Railroad Avenue in McCormick, S.C.

Your cost is for the materials only: $25 a person or $30 a couple.

She was preceded in death by eight of her siblings.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Talmadge Reed, of Lincolnton and many nieces and nephews.

Her great-nephews, Talmadge B. Reed, III, Ken Reed, William T. McWhorter, III, John W. Henderson, III, Judson Reed McWhorter, and Glenn Wright, served as pallbearers.

Breast health class

The University Health Care System Breast Health Center will sponsor a breast health class at Lincoln County Health Dept. June 19 from 8:30 - 2:45. No registration and no charge, but you can register to win a gift.

Drop in for breast health information, learn proper breast self exam techniques and the importance of yearly mammograms.

Appointments are required for mammograms. Please call 706-359- 3154 to schedule your mammogram. We accept medicare and most insurance plans.

Choir anniversary

First Baptist Church will be celebrating its choir anniversary on July 22 at 2:30 p.m. Our minister will be Rev. Tonia Cody and Parks Grove Church family will be in charge of services. The public is invited.

Hawes family reunion

The Hawes Family Reunion will be held June 22-24, 2007 in Spartanburg, S.C. Anyone related to Pauline Freemen Hawes, please contact chairperson Hanna Broome at 864-494-9986 for more information.
