Judge Hinesley presides over waived jury trials

Waived jury trials were held Thursday, June 7, at the Lincoln County Courthouse with Superior Court Judge Harold A. Hinesley presiding.

The following cases were disposed of during the proceedings:

.. Adrian Devin Reid pleaded guilty to theft by taking (felony) and was sentenced to five years probation and a $1,000 fine plus surcharges. The court further ordered the defendant to write a letter of apology to the victim in the matter.

.. Jeremy Leon Mickens pleaded guilty to simple battery and received 12 months (time served, with the balance on probation) and a $250 fine plus surcharges.

.. Quincy Orlando Curry pleaded guilty to theft by receiving (misdemeanor) and was sentenced to 12 months (time served, with the balance on probation), a $500 fine plus surcharges, and 40 hours community service. He was also ordered to make restitution in the amount of $300.

.. Alton McCord pleaded guilty to Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act (VGCSA [sale of cocaine]) and received eight years probation, a $1,500 fine plus surcharges, 80 hours community service, and the drug package.

The drug package is a special condition of probation which provides for drug treatment and counseling as well as random testing. It also requires the defendant to submit to searches of his person or property upon request.

McCord's driver's license was likewise revoked by the court.

.. Keyon Norman pleaded guilty to VGCSA (possession of cocaine) and was sentenced to eight years probation, an $8,000 fine plus surcharges, 80 hours community service, and the drug package.

The court further ordered that his driver's license be revoked.

.. Jerry Lee Mickens pleaded nolo contendere to simple battery and received 12 months (time served, with the balance on probation) and a $300

.. Leroy Anthony pleaded guilty to battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. On the first count, he was sentenced to 12 months probation and a $500 fine plus surcharges, and on the firearms charge, he received three years probation and a $500 fine plus surcharges. The two sentences will run concurrently.
