Community Calendar VBS at Double Branches Double Branches Baptist Church invites the youth to get in the game at Vacation Bible School "Game Day Central: Where Heroes Are Made!" Chicken plate sale Loco Volunteer Fire Department will sell chicken barbecue plates Sat., May 12. Pickup starts at 11:00 a.m. Family fun day The Lincoln County Historical Society will sponsor Family Fun Day on Wed., June 6 beginning at 10 a.m. Games, tours, contests and demonstrations are planned. Members and prospective members are invited to come and bring their families. The plan is to show off the park and show off our grandkids. Prizes for most grandchildren present, youngest great-grandmother, youngest grandchild, tallest 10-year-old and so forth, will be awarded. A hot dog and ice cream lunch is planned. Check with your busy families and get them to mark their calendar. We will need to RSVP to make plans. More details will follow in The Lincoln Journal. Church will have an evening of song and praise May 12 at 6 p.m. Special guests will be The Gospel Aires of Thomson and Rehoboth Baptist Church Male Chorus of Columbia County. Everyone is invited to come out and bring a friend. ACS offers RtoR prog. The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home. Drawing for LCD TV The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Little League will be selling tickets for a wall mountable LCD TV/DVD player combo, 32" wide screen. The drawing will be held June 4. You do not have to be present to win. Tickets are $1 each and may be purchased at Farmers & Merchant's Bank or any little league member. The TV may be seen at Farmers & Merchant's Bank. Breast health class University Health Care System Breast Health Center will sponsor a breast health class at Lincoln County Health Department May 29, 8:30 - 2:45. No registration, no charge. Drop in for breast health information; learn proper breast self-exam techniques, and the importance of yearly mammograms. Register for a chance to win a gift! Appointments are required for mammograms, please call 706-359- 3154 to schedule your mammogram. We accept Medicare and most insurance plans. CCLC to meet The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will meet Thurs., May 17, 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Library. The guest speaker for this month will be Alana Burke, executive director of the Lincoln County Development Authority. Everyone is welcome to come be a part of the CCLC. Ivey fund set up A fund for Taffy Ivey has been established at Farmers State Bank to aid with medical expenses due to an illness she's been dealing with the past two years. Breakfast for ladies The men of Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will prepare breakfast for the ladies on Mother's Day, May 13. Golf tourney A 4-Man Scramble Golf Tournament will be held Sat., June 2, 8:30 a.m. at Rocky Branch Golf Course. The community is encouraged to participate. Cost is $150 per team. Board meetings The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted. Legal assistance Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) will be in Lincoln County at The Lincoln Center, 160 May Avenue, to meet with seniors wanting free non-criminal legal help, on a firstcome, first-serve basis. They will meet on Mon., June 11 11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. If you are unable to meet with them this day, you may call 1-800-248- 6697 to talk with them during normal business hours.
