Parks to be honored

Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on May 29 and June 19.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information The Savannah River Christian Signs available Relay for Life signs are now available, for a donation, to all who would like to place one in your yard or in front of your business.

ACS offers RtoR prog.

The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home.

Drawing for LCD TV

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Little League will be selling tickets for a wall mountable LCD TV/DVD player combo, 32" wide screen. The drawing will be held June 4. You do not have to be present to win.

Tickets are $1 each and may be purchased at Farmers & Merchant's Bank or any little league member. The TV may be seen at Farmers & Merchant's Bank.

Feeding volunteers

"Because Cancer Never Sleeps" team Winkie, Blinkie and Nod - Newberry Baptist Church, has been given the challenge to feed the many dedicated volunteers, captains and the Relay for Life planning committee on Mon., May 7, bank night, at The Lincoln Center. Team captain Sherman Norman accepted this challenge.

A delicious buffet-style meal is planned for members who attend. Let's prepare to donate $6 to cover the cost of the meal. Desserts will cost extra. Please, purchase your meal ticket as you sign in. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

Ivey fund set up

A fund for Taffy Ivey has been established at Farmers State Bank to aid with medical expenses due to an illness she's been dealing with the past two years.

Breakfast for ladies

The men of Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will prepare breakfast for the ladies on Mother's Day, May 13. Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. and worship services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Book sale May 5

Friends of the Library's first semiannual book sale will begin Mon., April 30, in the Dova Partridge Annex at the library and will continue through Sat., May 5, with additional books on the lawn. Hardbacks and paperbacks are bargain priced. Stock up for your summer reading.

Board meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Golf tourney

A 4-Man Scramble Golf Tournament will be held Sat., June 2, 8:30 a.m. at Rocky Branch Golf Course. The community is encouraged to participate.

Cost is $150 per team. Proceeds will benefit Lincoln County Food Pantry and Ministerial Association. Lunch will be provided and there will be a drawing for prizes.

University Health Care System Breast Health Center will sponsor a breast health class at Lincoln County Health Department May 29, 8:30 - 2:45. No registration, no charge.

Drop in for breast health information; learn proper breast self-exam techniques, and the importance of yearly mammograms. Register for a chance to win a gift!

Promotion ceremony

The Tenth Annual Eighth-grade Promotion Ceremony will be held Tues., May 15, 7 p.m. in the Lincoln County Middle School/High School gymnasium.

The program will feature addresses given by the students with the highest averages in the class and the presentation of academic achievement awards.

The public is cordially invited to attend.

CCLC to meet

The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will meet Thurs., May 17, 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Library. The guest speaker for this month will be Alana Burke, executive director of the Lincoln County Development Authority.

Cycle tour May 5

The Third Annual Cycle Tour will be held in Warrenton Sat., May 5. Registration will be at the Warren County Courthouse, 521 Main St., from 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. Registration fee is $20 and proceeds will benefit the local mentoring program, the earlyread program and family events downtown.
