Devil Pride Band to present concert at LCHS tonight The LCHS Red Devil Pride Band has just completed another concert season, filled with hard work, festivals, and invitations to participate in area honor bands. To celebrate the conclusion of the concert season, band students at both schools will present their annual spring concert tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m. in the LCHS Auditorium. The program includes performances by the Sixth-Grade Band, the Seventh-Grade Band, the LCHS Red Devil Pride Band, and the LCMS/ LCHS Jazz Band. Among the selections that will be performed by the bands are "Two Asian Folk Songs;" "The Polish Polka Party;" "The Clock Shop;" "Amazing Grace;" "Royal March;" "Silvergate Overture;" "Highlander Suite;" "Ye Banks and Braes O' Bonnie Doon;" "Dedicatory Overture;" "Satin Doll;" "Take the A Train;" "Mission Impossible;" "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," featuring Jeree Dukes on vocals; and "Birdland." Local residents are encouraged to attend the concert where they can enjoy an evening filled with music and learn first-hand that the community has a lot to be proud of as far as the band students at LCMS/LCHS are concerned. There is no admission charge for the concert, but donations will be accepted. During the concert season, the Red Devil Pride Band performed at both the McDuffie County Concert Festival, where it received an overall rating of "excellent," and the West Laurens Shamrock Concert Festival in Dublin. According to Jasper Dukes, LCMS/LCHS band director, "We received a superior rating from all three judges at the Dublin festival, which once again proves that our students are capable of performing as well as any band in the surrounding area." The school also had several students who performed with different honor bands this spring: .. Jazmon Dukes and Donnell Harris took part in the honor band program at UGA. After auditioning for chair placement, both musicians were assigned to the second-highest band out of six performing groups. .. Sarah Fonseca and Scott Sutherland participated in the University of South Carolina Honor Band. .. Fonseca represented LCHS and Joel Dukes, LCMS, in the 10th District Honor Band. "The district honor band is the second most elite band in the state," said the LCMS/LCHS band director. "Through an audition process, the top students from each participating school earn a seat or chair in this prestigious performance group." In conclusion, Dukes reminded the community that the band's annual awards night is set for Monday, May 7, beginning at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. |
