Chamber Chatter Believe it or not, there is only five more weeks of the school year left. These five weeks will be packed with field trips, field days, awards ceremonies and graduation. Amid all the excitement of the upcoming events and activities, students at LCES and LCMS must focus on getting ready for the Criterion Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT), which is April 16 - 20. The CRCT tests the student's knowledge of the state's required curriculum. All students in grades first through eighth are required to take the test in the content areas of reading, language arts, and mathematics. Students in grades third through eighth are also assessed in the areas of science and social studies. In preparation for the testing week, parents please check to make sure your child has the correct kinds of pencils and/or other needed supplies for the test. Make sure your child gets a good night's rest and eats a nutritious breakfast. Please also make sure your child arrives to school on time each morning. Mystery weekend Mistletoe State Park will have a fun-filled murder mystery weekend April 20-22, beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday with the murderer being revealed at Sunday's breakfast. Cost is $99 per person and registration is limited to 25. To register call the park at 706-541-0321, deadline is Fri., April 14. Revival begins Double Branches Baptist Church will have revival beginning Sun., April 15 and will continue through Wed., April 18. Services will begin on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and the weeknight services will begin at 7 p.m. Dr. Larry Draper will be the guest evangelist. They will also have the following musical guests: Mon. - Renee Hall; Tues. - Benson Belangia; Wed. - Ora Poole. Meet Tom Poland An Afternoon with an author, sponsored by Lincoln County Friends of the Library, will be held Sunday afternoon, April 29, 2 p.m. at the library. Tom Poland, author of Forbidden Island...An Island Called Sapelo, will speak on inspiration for a novel, the writing process, and the road to publication. A book signing will follow. Light refreshments will be served. The public is invited. History demonstration Want to know what it was like to be a kid in the 18th Century? Elijah Clark State Park invites you to attend the Living History Demonstration on Sat., April 14 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Stop by the Log Cabin Museum for a taste of history as Harold Futch demonstrates homemade toys from the 1700s. Everyone will have the opportunity to play games and make toys that you can take home. Admission is free with your $3 park pass. For more information please call the park office at 706-359-3458. Spring retreat A spring retreat celebrating the Bride of Christ will be held at Camp Daniel Marshall April 13 - 14 at 7 p.m. Come experience the Jewish wedding traditions and find out how Christ fulfilled them all for you. Spring cleaning Spring Cleaning Day will be held Wed., April 18 at the Historical Park. Members are asked to bring mops, rags, dusters, brooms, mowers, sling blades, weed whackers, dust masks, buckets, wheelbarrows, sacks, vacuums, shovels and so forth to get rid of all the pollen, grass, weeds, dust, sticks, limbs and litter that has accumulated inside and out over the winter. The Society will clean up and clean out. Bring a sack lunch and the entertainment will be at noon in the Pavilion. Tea and ice water will be provided. We will start about 8:30 or 9:00 am. Bring a friend. Only prayer will get you closer to God than work. Pastor appreciation True Fellowship Pentecostal Church will observe pastor appreciation April 15 at 3:30 p.m. for Bishop James Ware. Rev. Tonita Cody and Parks Grove F.B.C. will be in charge of the service. Everyone is invited to come worship with us. Fish fry Sat. Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church will have a fish fry fund-raiser for Relay for Life on Sat., April 14, 9 a.m. at the home of Doris Blackwell, 2046 Augusta Hwy. Plates will cost $5 each. Benefit plate sale A benefit barbecue pork plate sale will be held for Greg and Beth Keener on Sat., April 21.
