Community Calendar Yard sale Sat. Morningside Baptist Church will have a yard sale on Sat., March 3 from 8 a.m. until. If raining, items will be inside the Family Life Center, if sunny, items will be in front of the church. All proceeds will go to the youth mission trip. Program at park Elijah Clark State Park invites you to attend the Poop Scoopin' Boogie on March 10 at 10 a.m. If you like solving mysteries and want to know "Who done it," this will be a fun program for you. We will go over the basic identification of animal scat, and then we'll take a scat walk on the Hannah Clark Nature Trail to see if we can locate and identify fresh droppings. Church-wide yard sale Faith Tabernacle Church will have a church-wide yard sale on Sat., March 3 at 249 Faith Lane in Lincolnton between 8 - 12. Items will include women, men, boys and girls clothing, household items, etc. Women on the Move St. Luke Baptist Church will have its annual Women on the Move for Christ March 10. TIA Helping Hand The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. Mobile mammography The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on March 13 and April 17. Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information Free legal help Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Lincoln County to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal, non-criminal, help on a first-come, first-serve basis at The Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Ave., on Wed., Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. If you are unable to meet with them on this date, you may call them any day at 1-800-248-6697. Memorial trail ride The Terry Tankersley Memorial Trail Ride at Bussey Point Recreation Area in Lincolnton will be held Sat., March 31. Ride horseback on your own from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. through the 2,500 acres of wilderness bound by 32 miles of shoreline. Cost is $5 per horse. Board meetings The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted. Turkey shoot The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will have a turkey shoot March 24 at the American Legion Fairgrounds from 7 - 10 p.m. Come on down, homemade potato soup, chili, and hot dogs will be available at the fair booth. Jazz performance The Jazz at Lincoln Center's Afro- Latin Jazz Orchestra, comprised of 18 prominent soloists from the Latin jazz scene, will perform on Thurs., March 1, at 7 p.m. in the Maxwell Theatre. Auxiliary to meet The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 194 will meet at 7:30 p.m., on March 8, at the post home. Breast health class The University Health Care System Breast Health Center will sponsor a breast health class at Lincoln County Health Department. No registration and no charge. The class will be held March 13 from 8:30 - 2:45. Remember to register for a chance to win a gift! Drop in for breast health information, learn proper breast self exam techniques, and the importance of yearly mammograms. Appointments are required for mammograms, please call 706-359- 3154 to schedule your mammogram. We accept Medicare and most insurance plans. ACS offers RtoR prog. The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home. I have spoken with several women that are interested in getting this auxiliary back together. I personally think this is very beneficial to the local fire departments.
