Morningside Baptist Church will have a yard sale on Sat., March 3 from 8 a.m. until. If raining, items will be inside the Family Life Center, if sunny, items will be in front of the church. All proceeds will go to the youth mission trip.

LWREA to meet

The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association (LWREA) will meet at 11 a.m. on Thurs., March 8 at the Lincoln County Library, 181 N. SALS to meet

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will meet at 7:30 p.m., March 13, at the post home. SAL Commander Rentz asks for all members to please attend the meeting to make plans for the turkey shoot and drawing.

LCDP to meet

The Lincoln County Democratic Party will meet at 7 p.m. on March 5 in the annex at the Lincoln County Library. They will meet in reference to the election to be held March 20 and the tenth district race to be held June 19. All interested parties are encouraged to attend.

GED/Adult classes

Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Wed., from 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359- 3425 or 706-359-5769.

Program at park

Elijah Clark State Park invites you to attend the Poop Scoopin' Boogie on March 10 at 10 a.m. If you like solving mysteries and want to know "Who done it," this will be a fun program for you. We will go over the basic identification of animal scat, and then we'll take a scat walk on the Hannah Clark Nature Trail to see if we can locate and identify fresh droppings. Just meet us at 10 a.m., March 10 at the Assembly Shelter. Admission is free with $3 park pass.

Church-wide yard sale

Faith Tabernacle Church will have a church-wide yard sale on Sat., March 3 at 249 Faith Lane in Lincolnton between 8 - 12. Items will include women, men, boys and girls clothing, household items, etc.

Women on the Move

St. Luke Baptist Church will have its annual Women on the Move for Christ March 10. Guest speaker will be Anita Pryor. Everyone is invited to attend. Alvin Rivers is pastor.

TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/50.

Mobile mammography The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on March 13 and April 17.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

Free legal help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Lincoln County to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal, non-criminal, help on a first-come, first-serve basis at The Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Ave., on Wed., Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Memorial trail ride

The Terry Tankersley Memorial Trail Ride at Bussey Point Recreation Area in Lincolnton will be held Sat., March 31. Ride horseback on your own from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. through the 2,500 acres of wilderness bound by 32 miles of shoreline. Cost is $5 per horse. Concession will be available for lunch on the point on Saturday only, no dogs please. Call the chamber office at 706-359-7970 for directions and more information. Primitive camping is also available.

Board meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Turkey shoot

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will have a turkey shoot March 24 at the American Legion Fairgrounds from 7 - 10 p.m. Come on down, homemade potato soup, chili, and hot dogs will be available at the fair booth.

Jazz performance

The Jazz at Lincoln Center's Afro- Latin Jazz Orchestra, comprised of 18 prominent soloists from the Latin jazz scene, will perform on Thurs., March 1, at 7 p.m. in the Maxwell Theatre. Auxiliary to meet

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 194 will meet at 7:30 p.m., on March 8, at the post home. Members are reminded to bring grits, self rising flour and corn meal for the food pantry. All members are urged to attend. We almost have goal.

Pastor appreciation

Mt. Zion Baptist Church will observe pastor appreciation on March 11 at 11:45 a.m. for Rev. Robert Crawford. Rev. Alvin Rivers of St. Luke Baptist Church will be in charge of the service.

Dive team meeting

The Lincoln County Rescue/Dive Team will meet at 7 p.m. on March 6 and 20 at the Lincoln County Department of Public Safety, Office of Emergency Services. All members are asked to please attend. Meetings are very important.

Golf tournament

The Lincoln County Athletic Boosters Club Golf Tournament will be held March 31 at Rocky Branch Golf Club. Contact Andy Wengrow for more information 706-359-1453. A $1,000 cash give-away for the closest to the pin.

Breast health class

The University Health Care System Breast Health Center will sponsor a breast health class at Lincoln County Health Department. No registration and no charge. The class will be held March 13 from 8:30 - 2:45. Remember to register for a chance to win a gift!

Drop in for breast health information, learn proper breast self exam techniques, and the importance of yearly mammograms.

Appointments are required for mammograms, please call 706-359- 3154 to schedule your mammogram. We accept Medicare and most insurance plans.

ACS offers RtoR prog.

The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home.

Revival at Jones Chapel

Revival services will be held at Jones Chapel on March 4 - 7, on Sun., at 6 p.m. and Mon. - Wed., at 7 p.m. Guests speakers will include Pastor Glen Hendley, Pastor Wade Palmer, Evangelist Donald Brady and Evangelist Nathan Kuykendall. Breakfast buffet

Faith Temple's First Saturday All You Can Eat Breakfast Buffet will be held Sat., March 3 from 7 - 10 a.m. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for 11 and under.

A church yard sale will also be held from 7 - 1 at Faith Temple, 1477 Leathersville Rd.

Looking for members

We are trying to start the volunteer firefighters ladies auxiliary again! I have spoken with several women that are interested in getting this auxiliary back together. I personally think this is very beneficial to the local fire departments. Computer classes

Computer literacy for beginners and intermediates will be offered beginning Tues., March 6. Classes are 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. for beginners and 3 - 5 p.m. for intermediates, Tues. and Thurs. each week for four weeks.

Classic Re-Runs is a non profit clothes shop specializing in good quality, lightly worn clothes for all sizes. They also have household items, dishes, and what-knots. All money is used exclusively for people with a medical emergency in Lincoln County. Donations are tax deductible.

4-H bulb sale

The Lincoln County 4-H club is selling flower bulbs to be planted this spring. These are Dutch Mill Bulbs and they are guaranteed to grow, all bulbs come with a free replacement guarantee.

Several varieties of both annual and perennial bulbs are being offered. Dutch Mills has promised us more bulbs per package and below-gardencenter prices. All bulbs will be shipped to arrive during the appropriate planting time for this area.

Drawing to be held

The Sons of American Legion Squadron 194 will hold a drawing on Sat., March 24, at the turkey shoot, for a Remington 1187 Sportsman 12 gauge black synthetic 2 ¾ inch and 3 inch Rem-Choke Barrel. You do not have to be present to win. Tickets are $2 or three for $5. Contact any Sons member for tickets. All proceeds will benefit the Sons.

Get free help with your tax returns with AARP Tax-Aide. Their free service can answer most of the tax issues faced by low and middle income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older.

CPR class

A CPR/First Aid class will be held at the Lincoln County OES building at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., March 15. Total cost is $35. You must pay $10 to pre-register by March 13 with remaining balance due night of class. Certification is good for two years.
