LCES announces winners of annual science fair

The LCES Science and Engineering Fair was held Monday, January 29, through Thursday, February 1, in the school gymnasium.
Due to inclement weather, the annual awards ceremony was postponed until Wednesday, February 7.
Third-grade students participated in the fair by submitting class projects for judging while fourth and fifthgraders completed group and individual projects.
A team of four educators judged the entries. They were Terry Joyner, a retired teacher; Mildred Wright, a prekindergarten teacher at LCES; Frank Cory, a retired science teacher; and Gail Duggan, regional science fair coordinator for the CSRA Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA).
Winning awards at this year's science fair were:
Third Grade
Paul Reviere's Block I and Block II classes, first place; no second-place ribbons were awarded; Elaine Beggs' Block I Class, third place; and Elaine Beggs' Block II Class, honorable mention.
Fourth Grade
First Place - Charity Wilder.
Second Place - Shelby Hinson and Kanika Norman.
Third Place - Chelsea Creech, Lalla Dawkins, Brendan Ebert, Steven Jackson, John Blundy, Kevin Hoops, and Megan Miller.

In her comments, Carol Olson, science fair coordinator at LCES, thanked the members of the community who participated in the awards ceremony as well as those who visited LCES to view the science projects. "We very much appreciate the community's support of our students and their accomplishments," she said.
The first-place winners in the fourth and fifth grades
are eligible to take part in the CSRA RESA Science and Engineering Fair set for
Friday and Saturday, February 23 and 24, at Lakeside High School in Columbia
County.
