Registration ends Feb. 16

Lincoln County Little League registration is currently underway at three convenient locations, Cliatt Crossing, Farmers and Merchants Bank and Goldman & Wengrow. Girls and boys age 5 - 16 are encouraged to sign up for a great season of baseball. Deadline to register is Feb. 16.

Youth group trip

If you are planning on traveling to Disney World with the Newberry Baptist Church Youth Group this year, you will need to contact one of the following coordinators as soon as possible. There are only 15 seats left! A deposit is needed to secure a seat.

Boat Smart class The Thurmond Lake Sail & Power Squadron is offering Boat Smart classes in five Wednesday sessions from 3 - 5 p.m. beginning Feb. 28. Classes will be held at the McCormick Public Library, 201 Railroad Ave., McCormick.

Women on the Move

CCLC to meet

Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will meet Thurs., Feb. 15, 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Library. Guest speaker will be Ernie Doss, Director of Department of Public Safety. Everyone is invited to come and be a part of the CCLC.

Old cards wanted

All old Christmas, birthday, holiday or all occasion cards and yarn are needed for the art class at Lincoln County Elementary School. If you have some, please drop them by the school or contact Mrs. Kelly.

TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/50.

Mobile mammography The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on February 20 and March 13.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

Free legal help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Lincoln County to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal, non-criminal, help on a first-come, first-serve basis at The Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Ave., on Wed., Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Board meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Valentine dance

A Valentine Dance with Crossroads playing country music and a variety of other favorites, will be held Sat., Feb. 17, 9:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. at the American Legion Post 194 in Lincolnton. Cost is $6 per person.

Benefit concert

The Lincoln County Mass Choir is sponsoring a benefit concert to solicit funds for the Barbara Stokes Elam Scholarship. The concert will be held at 6 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 17 at Mulberry CME Church.

Memorial trail ride

The Terry Tankersley Memorial Trail Ride at Bussey Point Recreation Area in Lincolnton will be held Sat., March 31. Ride horseback on your own from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. through the 2,500 acres of wilderness bound by 32 miles of shoreline. Cost is $5 per horse. Concession is available all day on Saturday with lunch on the 'Point,' no dogs please. Call the chamber office at 706-359-7970 for directions and more information. Primitive camping is also available.

Moore to speak

Renowned author and Bible teacher Beth Moore will speak to tens of thousands of women across North America in a live satellite simulcast based on her new book Get Out of That Pit on Sat., Feb. 24 at McCormick First Baptist Church from 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

ACS offers RtoR prog.

The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home.

4-H bulb sale

The Lincoln County 4-H club is selling flower bulbs to be planted this spring. These are Dutch Mill Bulbs and they are guaranteed to grow, all bulbs come with a free replacement guarantee.

Several varieties of both annual and perennial bulbs are being offered. Dutch Mills has promised us more bulbs per package and below-gardencenter prices. All bulbs will be shipped to arrive during the appropriate planting time for this area.

Fund set up for Myers

A fund has been established at Farmers State Bank to help Ray Myers with medical expenses. Ray has recently been diagnosed with cancer and has a long and expensive road ahead of him. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

NAACP banquet

Lincoln County Branch #5213 NAACP Annual Banquet will be held on Sat., Feb. 24, 7 p.m. at Faith Tabernacle Family Life Center, 249 Faith Lane, Lincolnton.

Guest speaker will be Rev. Melvin Adams, president of the 10th District GMBC of Georgia, Inc. Music will be provided by Newberry Mass Choir.

Musical program

The Echoes of Joy of Thomson will host a big musical program at First Baptist Church on Sat., Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. where Rev. Dennis Quinn is pastor. Admission is free.

Drawing to be held

The Sons of American Legion Squadron 194 will hold a drawing on Sat., March 24, at the turkey shoot, for a Remington 1187 Sportsman 12 gauge black synthetic 2 ¾ inch and 3 inch Rem-Choke Barrel. You do not have to be present to win. Tickets are $2 or three for $5. Contact any Sons member for tickets. All proceeds will benefit the Sons.

The Lincoln County Health Department has the flu vaccine available. The public is advised to call the health dept. at 706-359-3154 to confirm availability.

Free tax help

Get free help with your tax returns with AARP Tax-Aide. Their free service can answer most of the tax issues faced by low and middle income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older.

Prayer brunch

CPR class

A CPR/First Aid class will be held at the Lincoln County OES building at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., March 15. Total cost is $35. You must pay $10 to pre-register by March 13 with remaining balance due night of class. Certification is good for two years.

Arbor Day activity

Arbor Day Activity will be held at Elijah Clark State Park on Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. beside the cemetery. Join our volunteers as we prepare the ground for an April planting in our 1700s vintage garden. Admission is free with your $3 park pass.

Our colonial garden was begun in October 2006 with a grant from the Georgia Master Gardeners Association through the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). RSVP and resident volunteers planted daffodils, lilies, and irises around Elijah Clark's gravesite, and staked off two garden plots nearby. The plots were covered with newspaper and mulch for the winter, to soften and prepare the ground for work in February.

Classic Re-Runs is a non profit clothes shop specializing in good quality, lightly worn clothes for all sizes. They also have household items, dishes, and what-knots. All money is used exclusively for people with a medical emergency in Lincoln County. Donations are tax deductible.
