Community Calendar Registration ends Feb. 16 Lincoln County Little League registration is currently underway at three convenient locations, Cliatt Crossing, Farmers and Merchants Bank and Goldman & Wengrow. Mobile mammography The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on February 20 and March 13. Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Cost is $6 per person. Benefit concert The Lincoln County Mass Choir is sponsoring a benefit concert to solicit funds for the Barbara Stokes Elam Scholarship. Memorial trail ride The Terry Tankersley Memorial Trail Ride at Bussey Point Recreation Area in Lincolnton will be held Sat., March 31. Ride horseback on your own from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. through the 2,500 acres of wilderness bound by 32 miles of shoreline. Cost is $5 per horse. The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home. These are Dutch Mill Bulbs and they are guaranteed to grow, all bulbs come with a free replacement guarantee. Several varieties of both annual and perennial bulbs are being offered. Dutch Mills has promised us more bulbs per package and below-gardencenter prices. All bulbs will be shipped to arrive during the appropriate planting time for this area. Their free service can answer most of the tax issues faced by low and middle income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older. Arbor Day activity Arbor Day Activity will be held at Elijah Clark State Park on Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. beside the cemetery. Join our volunteers as we prepare the ground for an April planting in our 1700s vintage garden. Admission is free with your $3 park pass. Our colonial garden was begun in October 2006 with a grant from the Georgia Master Gardeners Association through the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). RSVP and resident volunteers planted daffodils, lilies, and irises around Elijah Clark's gravesite, and staked off two garden plots nearby. The plots were covered with newspaper and mulch for the winter, to soften and prepare the ground for work in February.
