A night you'll remember

I have always been proud in letting people know I'm from Lincoln County, Georgia. The memories of growing up there take me back to Lincoln County High School where I was fortunate to play on three football teams that made it to the state championship game. We won it all as a junior, but it was even sweeter to win it again as a senior. I've carried that joy with me since we defeated West Point for the 1963 state crown!

Now, with the announcement that Coach Larry Campbell will be inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, I hope all Red Devils past and present are filled with pride in your school and hometown.

Coach Campbell will be inducted with other sports luminaries like the Atlanta Falcons' Steve Bartkowski and Jessie Tuggle, World Series champion Kevin Brown, and Super Bowl winner Guy McIntyre. The event will take place at the Macon City Auditorium in Macon, Georgia on Saturday night, May 19.

As the membership chairman for the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, I encourage each of you to support Coach Campbell's induction by purchasing a ticket or table. Two years ago, a football coach from Madison, Georgia had a crowd of 90 come for his induction. I challenge all Red Devil fans to beat that number of supporters like we've beaten so many opponents on the playing field.

The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is a first class event that annually draws a crowd of 650 - 700. I can promise you, it will be a night you will remember as well as the 11 state titles Coach Campbell has brought to Lincoln County.

I look forward to all of us helping paint the Macon City Auditorium red in honor of the greatest football coach ever in Georgia - Larry Campbell!!
