Frank Dempsey Guillebeau, MD
His funeral service were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 11 at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. William D. "Biff" Coker and Rev. Timothy Olds officiating. Dr. Guillebeau was taken to Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton, Georgia for a visitation Thursday evening. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. on Friday at Goshen Baptist Church in Lincolnton, with interment in the church cemetery. Dr. Guillebeau was born November 15, 1929 in Lincolnton, Georgia. He graduated with honors from Lincolnton High School where he began his thirst for knowledge and his lifelong commitment to the Lincoln County Red Devils. He continued his academic career, graduating with honors from the University of Georgia and has always shared his love of the Georgia Bulldogs with friends and family. He went on to earn his MD with top honors from the Medical College of Georgia in 1954. He completed his internship at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by residency at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. He instilled the value of education and a love for learning in his children and grandchildren. He moved to Albany, Georgia in 1960 and practiced medicine with Hollis, Johnson, and Guillebeau, which later became Albany Internal Medicine. He was board certified in internal medicine and a fellow in the American College of Cardiology. He helped start Palmyra Park Hospital and was a trustee on its board for several years. He was also a member of the Dougherty County Medical Society, where he once served as its president. He felt that medicine was his calling and enjoyed every day that he spent serving his patients. He loved going to work and helping others. He retired in 1999. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for 40 years and served as a deacon, and elder, and a trustee. He was a member of the John Knox Sunday School Class. He loved his retirement years, finding time to devote to his passions of fly fishing and quail hunting, as well as enjoying nature and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed simple things like listening to the birds, looking at the stars, and working outdoors. His endless curiosity about life and his thirst for knowledge led him to spend many hours reading and posing questions to his grandchildren to make them think. He loved watching the Red Devils and the Bulldogs play and spending time on his farm in Lincoln County. He will always be remembered for loving his fellow man. He lived by these words: "Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly, and leave the rest to God." He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Leila Guillebeau of Lincolnton, Georgia, as well as his sister, Lenoir LaMountt of Macon, Georgia. Survivors include his devoted wife of 56, Peggy Cullars Guillebeau; four children and their spouses, Watson Frank Guillebeau and wife, Cindy Rainey Guillebeau of Albany, Ga., Janet Guillebeau Carter and husband, Mark Carter of Winterville, Ga., David Cullars Guillebeau and wife, Janet Daniels Guillebeau of Albany, Ga., and Mark Dempsey Guillebeau and wife, Dawn Brandt Guillebeau of Barnwell, S.C.; seven grandchildren that he loved very much and who will miss him dearly, Kristin Carter, Kyle Guillebeau, Laura Leigh Guillebeau, Ben Guillebeau, Beverly Guillebeau, Ashley Guillebeau, and Lauren Guillebeau; one brother, Tommy Guillebeau and wife, Gail Pitts Guillebeau, of Augusta, Ga.
