Rev. Favors will be guest speaker at annual MLK birthday observance
The annual Lincoln County Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Observance will take place Sunday, January 14, at 3 p.m. in the LCHS Auditorium.

The event is being sponsored by the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners, the City of Lincolnton, the Lincoln County Chapter of the NAACP, and the Twilight Improvement Association, Inc.

The gust speaker for the occasion is Rev. Frederick D. Favors, pastor of Springfield Baptist Church in Thomson.

Favors holds a Bachelor of Science degree in pre-med from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and a Master of Arts in administration and policy study from Atlanta University. He has been engaged in further study at the Morehouse School of Religion and Columbia Theological Seminary.

Prior to entering the ministry, Favors was an educator and research assistant.

Throughout the years, he has been active in a variety of organizations including the Georgia Planning Group for Health Promotion, the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, the CSRA Headstart Policy Council, Habitat for Humanity, the McDuffie County Chapter of the NAACP, and the McDuffie Council on Child Abuse. He also organized the McDuffie County Human Relations Committee.

In addition, Rev. Favors was the first African-American elected to the McDuffie County Board of Commissioners and was a delegate to the 1988 National Democratic Convention.

Along with the guest speaker, the program will also feature readings, congregational singing, and special music provided by vocalist Ashley Rivera; the LCHS Red Devil Pride Band, under the direction of Jasper Dukes; and others.

Bruce Beggs, Lincoln County Superior Court clerk, will preside over the observance.
